Immediate Need for a Dev Ops Engineer , Project Based role , possible contract to direct ;

seeking a GitHub/Configuration Management consultant to stand up repository ecosystem and developer workflow for new programs within an existing tool infrastructure. Responsibilities include:



  • Github API scripting and automating repo creation and configuration (org/repo scaffolding, templates, branch protections, manage "code owners", labels, actions, secrets)
  • Implementing least privilege infrastructure
  • Creating repo maintenance process (archiving, dependency updates, issue templates, and CDRL/policy compliance).
  • Creating reliable check-in/merge practices that wires PR checks (status, required viewers, squash vs. merge settings), automation of test verification and code reviews
  • Designing and documenting a pull-request workflow to ensure code quality and traceability across the project.
  • Implementing CI/CD integrations that gate merge on automated and/or manual quality checks, including unit and integration test execution, static analysis/code quality and security/safety scans, and coverage thresholds.
  • Produce nightly/weekly reporting data products dashboards/exports that summarize build health, test results, coverage trends, vulnerability findings, and merge metrics.

  • Coordinate with corporate IT to implement configuration changes to tools managed in Microsoft GCC High.


Tasking:



  • Design and implement GitHub repository creation scripting/automations: organization/repo scaffolding, templates, default branches, branch protection rules, code owners, labels, Actions/workflows, required status checks, environments, and secrets management.
  • Establish GitHub user and project team management: least-privilege role models, group-to-team mappings, audit policies, review cadence.
  • Perform repository maintenance: dependency/update automation, issue/PR templates, security alerts and "Dependabot" configuration, archival/retention policies, and policy/compliance checks.
  • Define a standardized pull-request workflow: PR templates, status checks, required reviewers, merge strategies (squash/rebase/merge), and traceability conventions (linked issues, changelog, release notes).
  • Implement CI/CD integration: pipeline definitions, artifact/versioning strategy, environment promotion gates, and caching to optimize build times.
  • Configure automated testing gates: unit and integration tests, static analysis and code quality checks, Implement CI based Static Analysis Security Testing (SAST)/secret scanning/license compliance tools, coverage thresholds, and safety/security policies.
  • Automate test verification and code review enforcement: blocking checks, review rules, auto-assign/auto-request reviews, and auto-merge where appropriate.
  • Produce nightly reporting/data products: dashboards and exports covering build health, test results, coverage trends, code vulnerabilities, PR/merge metrics, and CDRL/Service Level Agreement (SLA) adherence; deliver ops procedures for ongoing ownership.
  • Implement project specific Jira configuration including reports

  • Creation of templated repositories with associated Git Actions


Essential Qualifications



  • Experience with: Github Enterprise Server, Confluence, Jira Software Data Center, CodeQL, Artifactory w Xray, Azure, containerization

  • BS Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or related technical field. Commensurate experience will be considered.
  • 5+ years of practical experience in DevOps.

  • Experience with creating DevOps solutions for codebases in C, C++ and REACT.
  • Experience ensuring sensitive software related data is stored and accessed in adherence to applicable government standards (such as CUI, PHI or PII).
