The Director, People & Development supports the execution of Human Resources practices and objectives that foster an employee-oriented, high-performance culture. In partnership with senior P&D leadership, this role leads the implementation of people programs and initiatives across multiple solutions or functional areas. Areas of focus include employee relations, manager coaching, performance management, internal mobility, compensation consultation, and employee engagement. The Director serves as an advisor and escalation point for people related matters.

Please note: For candidates local to the St. Louis/Fenton area, this is a hybrid role 3 days per week.

Scope

  • Human Resources responsibility for all employees in the organization as well as freelance/contract workers. May have direct reports - P&D Manager and/or P&D Generalist. No budgetary responsibility.

Reporting and Working Relationships

  • Reports directly to Vice President, People & Development, or Chief People Officer. Works with all departments and levels within the organization. Partners closely with Benefits, Payroll, Legal and HR professionals across the larger Maritz organization.

Primary Responsibility

30% - People & Development Program Execution Across Departments - Leads the implementation of people related programs and initiatives across assigned departments. Supports performance management processes, succession planning, and employee performance improvement efforts. Ensures consistency and alignment in administration of organizational policies.

30% - Employee Relations & Manager Coaching - Serves as an advisor to management/leadership on employee relations matters, workplace concerns, and performance coaching. Investigates and resolves basic to complex employee issues, partnering with Legal and P&D leadership where necessary. Reinforces aspirational and performance coaching practices and supports manager development through ongoing coaching. May partner with Organizational Development team to further management/leadership professional growth and development.

20% - Engagement, Culture & Cross-Functional Projects - Supports employee engagement initiatives and contributes to culture-building efforts. May lead or participate in committees or projects. Acts as a role model of organizational values and supports communication efforts that reinforce company culture and priorities.

20% - Hiring, Promotions & Internal Mobility - Provides guidance on career pathing and structure, internal promotions, and external job offer consultations. Partners with solution Finance partner to manage people related budgets in accordance with organizational-wide RACI. Ensures all offers align with job/level, structure, and total compensation practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business, Psychology, or related field.

  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive HR experience.

  • Strong experience supporting multiple departments or business units in locations that are geographically dispersed.

  • Strong background in employee relations, performance management, and compensation consultation.

  • Experience with Workday is preferred.

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence and support leaders across the organization.
