About the Job

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Exhibitions Program Coordination (70%)

  • In collaboration with faculty, staff and students, assume a leadership role in the coordination, planning, installation, and publicity of the BA and BFA commencement exhibitions and the MFA thesis exhibitions.
  • Organize the Registration Forms from the lenders, confirm label copy, insurance values, sales prices.
  • Order vinyl exhibition signage and specialty paints for gallery.
  • Organize receptions and technical support for exhibitions.
  • Produce exhibition object labels.
  • Arrange Nash Gallery visiting artist contracts and local arrangements

Publicity Coordination (15%)

  • Organize publicity for all exhibitions (UMN Calendar of Events listings, printing and mailing of announcements, exhibition signage)
  • Maintain and update the Gallery website, Facebook, Twitter.
  • Maintain and update the Gallery phone messaging.

Administrative Support (15%)

  • Provide Enterprise Financial System (EFS) support for Nash Gallery
  • Hire, supervise and schedule the Nash Gallery attendants.
  • Assists gallery director in the development and maintenance of relationships with donors and potential donors.
  • Grants -- Assists gallery director in the preparation of grant proposals and the reporting on grants.
  • Supervise Nash Gallery Interns who provide administrative support
Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS or a combination of related education and work experience equal to at least 4 years.
  • Extensive understanding of museum best practices for art handling, packing, and transporting artwork.
  • Experience in installing and maintaining audio and visual media.
  • Knowledge in gallery lighting design.
  • Carpentry skills.
  • Experience building crates for fine art objects.
  • Experience in safely operating and maintaining various hand and power tools, hydraulic lifts, forklifts, scissor lifts/personal lifts, and other specialized equipment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Bending, squatting, reaching, lifting overhead, kneeling, and climbing ladders.
  • Valid driver's license; safe driving record.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • General knowledge of art history, contemporary art, and artists' materials.
  • Experience utilizing 3D modeling software.
  • Experience using Museum Collection Management Systems.
  • Experience in matting and building custom frames for artworks of all mediums.

The Katherine E. Nash Gallery is a research laboratory for the practice and interpretation of the visual arts.

History

Professor Katherine "Katy" E. Nash (1910 - 1982), a faculty member of the Department of Art from 161 - 1976, proposed that the Student Union create a university art gallery. Founded in 1979, the gallery moved to its current location in the Regis Center for Art in 2003. Learn more about the remarkable life and work of Professor Nash.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $22.60 - $24.00/hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience
