The Access Management Engineering Team
The Access Management team builds core identity and access management products, which include Universal Directory, Single Sign-on, API Access Management, Lifecycle Management, and the core Authentication experience that touches millions of users. These products are mission-critical for our customers' security and business operations. We have a massive amount of data and usage, which means we tackle unique challenges in architecture, scale, and performance. The Software Engineer Opportunity
We seek a dynamic Software Engineerto join our Device Assuranceengineering team. The ideal candidate should have solid experience in Javasoftware development and be enthusiastic about writing server-side software and services. The role offers a high-visibility, hands-on opportunity to design solutions for current and emerging problems in the security and identity space.
You will share our passion and pride in elegant solutions and join an engineering team that strongly believes in designing for scale, rigorous code reviews, automated testing, and an iterative process to build high-quality enterprise software. You will demonstrate a great aptitude for software engineering excellence and are not afraid to be a player-coach.

What you'll be doing


  • Collaboratewith cross-functional teams (QA, Product, Support, UX) for seamless delivery of Okta products and engineering initiatives.
  • Own the deliveryof product and engineering requirements, as they are implemented in our coreJavaservices.
  • Following best practices,contribute to technical designs, proposals, and architectural decisions.
  • Develop high-quality, maintainable software componentswith comprehensive unit/functional tests.
  • Participate in code reviews, providing feedback and ensuring adherence to coding standards and security best practices.
  • Contribute to technical documentationand knowledge sharing within the team.


What you'll bring to the role


  • 4+ years of software development experience, with at least 2 years of experience designing and building server-side features withJava and Spring.
  • Experience withhigh performance Postgres or MySQLenvironments.
  • Experience withREST API design.
  • Experience with server-side technologies includingcaching, asynchronous processing, and multi-threading.
  • Good understanding ofdesign patterns, scalability patterns, security engineering, and object-oriented principles.
  • Experience working in fast-paced software development teams, leveragingcontinuous integration, testing tools, and deployment practices.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work across functions.


And extra credit if you have experience in any of the following!


  • Understanding ofIdentity and Access Managementprotocols and technologies (FIDO, U2F, WebAuthn, SSO, SAML, OAuth, Federation, etc.).
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, secure coding practices, and certifications like CISSP or Security+.
  • Experience with UI technologies such asReactJS.
  • Exposure togRPC APIdevelopment.
  • Exposure tomicro service architecture.
  • Exposure toML/AItechnologies.


This role requires in-person onboarding and travel to our San Francisco, CA HQ office or our Chicago office during the first week of employment.

Below is the annual base salary range for candidates located in California. Your actual base salary will depend on factors such as your skills, qualifications, experience, and work location. In addition, Okta offers equity (where applicable), bonus, and benefits, including health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), flexible spending account, and paid leave (including PTO and parental leave) in accordance with our applicable plans and policies. The annual base salary range for this position for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay area is between:
$159,000 $239,000 USD
