What to Expect
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Network Applications Engineer to join the Tesla Energy Applications Engineering team. You will be a subject matter expert in industrial networking for battery energy storage systems and will be responsible for development, testing, and validation of networking features into Megapack and other Tesla Energy projects. You will work with a cross functional team of SCADA, Network Operations, SW/HW development, Project, and Sales Engineers to deliver reliable, cost-effective network solutions. As a key technical member of the cross-functional Applications Engineering team, you will be integral to Tesla's mission of accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy.

What You'll Do
  • Engage with customers and internal stakeholders and write technical product requirement documents, acceptance criteria, and test plans for new network features and applications to improve Tesla Energy's product offerings

  • Establish and document clear requirements and development plans for features spanning cross-functional teams. Report on progress to leadership and other stakeholders

  • Develop internal and external technical documentation to educate customers and adjacent teams about new functionalities and compliance requirements

  • Respond to escalations related to networking issues and provide technical support both internally and externally with customers throughout the sales and deployment of Tesla products into new and complex applications

  • Manage and assess reliability of networking solutions by performing failure mode analysis and network modeling. Lead the development of risk management strategies across a cross-functional team


What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field with 3+ years of experience in networking, preferably in industrial or energy systems, or equivalent experience

  • Demonstrated application of analysis, design, and testing to solve complex engineering problems. Self-motivated and able to work both independently and as part of a cross-functional team

  • Hands-on experience with network solutions including switches, routers, firewalls, transceivers, media converters, and other communications systems in energy projects

  • Experience with network software development processes in cross-functional environments, including familiarity with virtualization platforms and a proven ability to automate prototyping and validation tests with programming languages like Python, C, C++, Rust, or Go

  • Strong understanding of network architecture in large industrial control systems, the OSI model, TCP/IP protocols (mainly layer 2 and layer 3), network traffic analysis, diagnostics, network redundancy protocols (REP, MRP, HSR, PRP, etc.), and time sync protocols (NTP, PTP, etc.)

  • Experience with industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850, MQTT, and OPC UA is a plus

    Expected Compensation
    $133,440 - $292,800/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
