Job Summary: This position has overall responsibility for the substation functions, guides the daily requirements of the Substation work group and provides technical assistance to employees. Responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the overall operation of the Substation department in accordance with policies and procedures, current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations governing the utility industry. Providing quality and efficient customer service to customers through the daily supervision of a team of employees to include hiring, motivating, recognizing and rewarding, coaching, counseling, training and problem solving.

Job Responsibilities:

o Supervises, coordinates, provides leadership to, and facilitates the activities of assigned work group, including safety, prioritizing, workflow allocation, quality control, staff scheduling, performance reviews and employee relations.

o Addresses disciplinary and/or performance issues, in conjunction with HR, according to company policy, and communicates effectively with employees regarding corrective action.

o Provides feedback to employees during progress reviews; provides direction to employees and resolves technical questions; monitors workflow allocation to minimize overtime, backlog and customer complaints.

o Reviews area operations to identify process and procedure improvements. Responsible for suggesting methods to improve area operations, efficiency and service to both internal and external customers.

o Provides input and administers work group budget to ensure cost-effective use of resources. Estimates costs and analyzes actual cost variance from budget and explains differences.

o Identifies viable alternative solutions to resolve internal customer requests and plans activities to eliminate delays.

o Provide technical assistance when needed. Will investigate and schedule required training on new technology for the department.

o Be a front-line problem solver in response to personnel, administrative, or technical issues.

o Keep work group informed of procedural and organizational changes.

o Abide by the Labor Agreement when assigning daily tasks.

o Keep abreast of industry changes and enhancements.

o Will direct, schedule, document and over see the annual maintenance and testing of substation equipment.

o Acts as a project manager and oversees the installation of substations and related equipment and hardware. Directs the work performed for the periodic substation maintenance program as required.

o Researches and recommends substation equipment to best meet the needs of internal and external; customers and for improving system reliability.

o Directs the testing, sampling and analyzing of transformers and transformer oils for disposal.

o Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with the established company safety manual and federal mandates.

o Other duties as assigned.

o This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures.

Job Requirements:

* Qualified applicant must have a minimum of 5 years experience in all aspects of substation operations, including design, construction, maintenance, equipment operation and equipment testing.

* Knowledgeable about collective bargaining agreements, local, state, and federal codes, ordinances and laws relating to the utility industry.

* Demonstrated ability and knowledge to effectively understand and manage O&M and Capital Budget.

* Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups across functional lines. Must have high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy.

* Thorough knowledge of OSHA laws and requirements, NEC and NESC requirements pertaining to Electric Utilities. Must have a Thorough knowledge of the UES Electric Safety Manual.

* Proficient in the use of personal computer applications, including but not limited to, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and other industry and/or department specific software applications.
