Salary Range Student Teaching Supervisors are paid per-visit stipends of $90/visit for practicum placement and $100/visit for student teaching.
Job Summary
The Department of Education at Elmhurst University invites applications for practicum and student teaching supervisors for the special education program.

Supervisors observe candidates in practicum and pre-student teaching settings twice in a semester and student teacher candidates for 6 times during a semester. Supervisors are paid a stipend each semester based on the number of teacher candidates being observed and the number of visits. Clinical supervisors are the liaisons between Elmhurst University and school personnel and work in collaboration with mentor teachers and teacher candidates.
Essential Functions

  • Conferences with the mentor teacher about expectations for the semester.
  • Acts as a confidante for both the mentor teacher and the teacher candidate.
  • Advocates for the teacher candidate.
  • Facilitates clear communication and positive interactions between the mentor teacher and the teacher candidate.
  • Assists the teacher and candidate in developing clear, realistic goals for co-teaching practices.
  • Handles any difficult or sensitive situations that might arise, and contacts the university immediately with any concerns or questions.
  • Conferences at the site visit regarding the candidate's strengths, needs, and areas of concern; plans for remediation if necessary.
  • Shares candid reflections on the candidate's classroom performance and development.
  • Submits an evaluation for the teacher candidate.

Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs other teaching-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Five years of teaching and/or administrative experience in special education.
  • Licensed teacher and/or administrator (retired or inactive is fine).
  • Advanced degree in Education.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work positively with students and other instructors.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
The essential functions of this position are primarily performed in an indoor setting with limited exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Work is often sedentary in nature and requires remaining in a stationary position for extended periods. Required abilities include speaking and hearing for in-person and virtual communication, using close and distance vision when reading documents or viewing screens, and performing tasks with repetitive fine motor skills. Work may require occasional lifting, bending, carrying, or otherwise moving objects weighing up to 15 pounds. Qualified applicants who can perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodations will be considered.
