What to Expect
This role focuses on ensuring that supercharge profiles for the upcoming cell development programs meet both charge time and lifetime requirements. As a Sr. Cell Engineer, you will coordinate lifetime testing, model validation, and degradation analysis across multiple labs to accelerate fast charge profile development and minimize lifetime warranty risk. This position will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to drive program progress and push the boundaries of battery technology. You will play a pivotal role in characterizing battery materials, understanding degradation mechanisms, and optimizing cell performance to enhance the product experience for Tesla customers globally.
What You'll Do
- Lead qualification efforts for new cell programs from concept to completion as a key member of a cross-functional team
- Conduct investigations and prepare status reports on issues, providing actionable recommendations
- Quantify degradation modes in various battery chemistries and propose effective countermeasures
- Develop innovative electrochemical and chemical tests to analyze battery materials and improve cell performance
- Interpret electrochemical and electrode characterization data to optimize lithium-ion battery performance
- Manage multiple high-impact projects to accelerate battery characterization using existing and new techniques
- Collaborate with teams to analyze data and drive advancements in charge capability, energy, and lifetime
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of industrial experience in cell testing and qualification
- Hands-on experience in battery assembly, teardown, testing, characterization, and diagnostics
- Experience with performing FMEA as a methodical approach for identifying potential risks in design or process changes
- Familiarity with degradation mechanisms of batteries and battery materials
- Ability to adapt and learn new concepts quickly
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration in a fast-paced environment

Expected Compensation
$128,000 - $192,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
