Job Description
JOB OBJECTIVE: The Sustainability Intern will support Promega's corporate responsibility program by assisting with sustainability data collection, reporting, and project implementation. This role will contribute to initiatives that reduce environmental impacts across operations, while also monitoring emerging trends in climate action, product sustainability, and industry expectations.
CORE DUTIES:
1. Assist with validation of Promega's SBTi targets and support deployment of aligned sustainability initiatives.
2. Collect and organize data for sustainability platforms (e.g., EcoVadis, CDP) and internal reporting.
3. Collaborate with sustainability teams to implement waste reduction, water conservation, and carbon reduction initiatives.
4. Support sustainability communications, including educational materials, stakeholder engagement, and contributions to the annual Corporate Responsibility Report.
5. Work cross-functionally with departments across the company to advance corporate responsibility goals.
6. Research and analyze emerging trends, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations in the biotech sector related to climate action and sustainability.
7. Demonstrate inclusion through words and actions, fostering a safe and respectful workplace.
8. Apply Promega's six Emotional & Social Intelligence (ESI) principles to daily work, practicing curiosity, empathy, and collaboration.
9. Understand and comply with ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements relevant to Promega's business.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Actively pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in sustainability, environmental science, business, or a related field.
2. Demonstrated ability to organize and manage multiple time-sensitive projects.
3. Strong ability to deliver results independently with minimal supervision.
4. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
5. Professionalism and tact in interactions with internal and external stakeholders.
6. Strong written, verbal, and listening communication skills, with confidence in both one-on-one and group settings.
7. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
8. Valid driver's license required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Experience with carbon accounting, sustainability reporting, or life cycle assessment (LCA).
2. Familiarity with corporate sustainability frameworks (e.g., SBTi, GRI, CSRD).
3. Knowledge of sustainability trends in biotech or life sciences. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
1. Ability to communicate with employees via phone, video, e-mail and in person.
2. Ability to move between buildings on campus.
3. Ability occasionally to move boxes weighing up to 30 lbs.
4. Ability to remain stationary for several hours at a time.
