Department:Solid Waste Department Organizational Unit:Disposal Position Type:Permanent Full Time/Part Time:Full Time CLOSE DATE: 10/14/2025 $27.65 to $30.42 hourly. Actual salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Central Area/Cocoa/Central Disposal Facility. Work schedule is variable and includes evenings, weekends, and holidays. Performs skilled crafts and trades work in the maintenance and repair of very complex heavy diesel and/or gasoline vehicles and equipment, including over-the-road tractor-trailers and heavy construction equipment. May perform repairs to equipment in highly disagreeable surroundings and unavoidable hazards in the Landfill. May oversee and direct the work of Solid Waste Service Technicians and other employees. REQUIREMENTS: Eight (8) years of experience in heavy equipment mechanics, including three (3) years of diesel engine mechanics. Successful completion of coursework in heavy equipment mechanics or a closely related field at a postsecondary school may be substituted on a year for year basis for a maximum of one (1) year (1,080 class hours [1 school year] = 1 year of experience; 120 class hours = 1 month of experience). Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted on a year for year basis. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida Class A Commercial Driver's License and maintain said license during the term of employment. Must possess the following Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications: T1 - Gasoline Engines; T2 - Diesel Engines; T3 - Drivetrain; T4 - Brakes; T5 - Suspension & Steering; T6 - Electrical Systems; T7 - Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning; and T8 - Preventative Maintenance Inspection and must maintain said certifications in an active status during the term of employment. Must be able to properly wear and utilize all required personal protective equipment (PPE). Must be able to work planned an unplanned overtime, including nights, weekends, and holidays. In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
