Compensation: $50,000 - $60,000 per year

SUMMARY:

Responsible for providing support and assists in the design, development, implementation, and training, of fundamental data processing solutions to meet business needs through the use of user interfaces, analytical skills, programming techniques, report development, software configuration, and thorough testing practices.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists in various phases of LIMS and supporting laboratory software applications (both packaged and custom): analysis, troubleshooting, system management, configuration, testing, validation, and customization as well as implementation, installation, upgrade, maintenance and performance or functional problem resolution.
  • Investigates, assesses, evaluates and resolves fundamental technical production problems and behavior, unassisted and in collaboration with other system-specific analysts, developers, and IT personnel.
  • Utilizes SQL scripted ad-hoc queries and data extracts to fully quantify, qualify and accurately perform required static or dynamic data updates as well as generate detailed reports in support of trouble-shooting, sales and operations support, audit, and QA investigations.
  • Escalates or refers incoming out of scope issues to the appropriate product group, specialized individual, management, or interdepartmental change request and enhancement review committee.
  • Provides fundamental support for designated 3rd party software providers and interacts with external software vendors to submit potential bug reports for review, repair, change, or enhancement requests.
  • Provides direct end-user support for daily production system processes and produces detailed solution-based oral and written responses to user inquiries, problem reports, system management tasks, and information requests.
  • Provides after business hours on-call rotation support.
  • Researches, reviews and studies existing internal documentation, external reference sources, and vendor technical guides and manuals to properly interpret intended system behavior, develop correct system configuration solutions, and provide accurate, useful, and productive end-user problem solutions, and workarounds.
  • Communicates with all levels of users to gain an understanding of systems used, gather business requirements, provide functional system configuration advice, and resolve system processing issues.
  • Prepares fundamental system, program or report definition, design specifications, documentation and software configuration and setup requirements.
  • Provides necessary training and work instruction documentation to support a delivered system, program or report.
  • Trains users in new and existing applications, systems and technologies.
  • Maintains current knowledge of technology and new computer applications.
  • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the department's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
  • Promotes and supports the overall mission of Pace Analytical by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with customers and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, chemistry/biology, or a related field; AND two (2) years of professional experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Techniques to manage and oversee IT projects from development to implementation.
  • IT systems analysis for administrative and business applications in a variety of environments.
  • Operational principles, practices, concepts related to the department or corporate area related to the project.
  • Principles and practices of systems transactions.
  • Management information systems practices and terminology.
  • Forms and documentation design techniques.
  • Record keeping principles and practices.
  • Documentation and user instruction methods and techniques.
  • Correct business English, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Required Skills:

  • Analyzing and documenting business processes, user requirements, and outputs such as test results.
  • Instructing users in the use of new or enhanced business applications, including explaining technical concepts to non-technical users.
  • Adapting appropriate hardware and software solutions for system design.
  • Analyzing systems and problems and developing specifications for new or modified programs to meet customer department needs
  • Maintaining accurate records of work performed.
  • Preparing clear and concise documentation, user instructions, reports, correspondence, and other written materials.
  • Working without close supervision in standard work situations.
  • Using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.
  • Applying database and development skills with Oracle, Oracle forms, scripting languages, PL/SQL, MS/SQL, MS/Access, Visual Basic, .NET, Actuate, Jasper, SSRS, or similar tools.
  • Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives, and activities
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a variety of individuals contacted in the course of the work.
