This position is responsible for leading and managing the efforts of the Operations department in the areas of continuous improvement/development and oversight of the Operations expense budget. The position collaborates with other positions across Operations and the company to achieve objectives. The position is highly matrixed and will lead their team and others, while performing detailed analysis at a complex level.



Location: Edison Street Service Center in PIttsburgh.PA



Responsibilities:



  • In the area of the Operations continuous improvement, in a leadership and working manager capacity, ensure the following actions are accomplished to support successful performance of the Operations department and the company:

    • Lead Operations to meet all continuous improvement targets.
    • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement to increase efficiency, increase quality, improve customer satisfaction, mitigate risks, reduce spending, etc.
    • Track and monitor continuous improvement efforts through the lifecycle of the initiatives including actual outcomes compared to estimated outcomes.
    • Ensure Operations has sufficient opportunities identified and on track to meet assigned continuous improvement targets including targets for capital and expense savings.
    • Develop monthly and as-needed reports on the Operations department continuous improvement performance.


  • In the area of the Operations expense budget, in a leadership and working manager capacity, ensure the following actions are accomplished to support successful financial performance of the Operations department and the company:

    • Lead Operation to achieve successful expense budget management results.
    • Develop the Operations budget in accordance with the company's annual business planning activities. This typically includes a five-year budget horizon.
    • Monitor and analyze performance by reviewing actual charges compared to budget and ensure accurate variance report explanations are provided.
    • Develop monthly and as-needed updates to the expense forecast.
    • Develop monthly and as-needed reports to communicate Operations performance on expense budget management.
    • Identify risks and opportunities in the Operations annual budget, five-year business plan, and forecast updates.
    • Recommend corrective actions to keep Operations on track to keep spending under the approved budget amount.
    • Monitor expense charges to ensure charges are appropriately being directed to the proper accounting elements including cost centers, cost elements, and expenditure type.
    • Collaborate with other leaders involved in Operations budget development including those responsible for the capital budget, resource planning, and scheduling.


  • Perform other budgeting and financial duties as needed including those not directly associated with the expense budget.



Additional Responsibilities:

  • Storm team duties as assigned



Education and Experience Required:



  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, engineering or related discipline
  • Seven or more (7+) years of relevant experience .



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience working at a utility or providing consulting services to a utility
  • Previous leadership experience

  • Excellent leadership, analytical, and communication skills.

Scope

Primary focus is on day to day management of operational execution. Also develops and exercises business plans, policies, and procedures. Contributes to proactive planning exercises of management team as requested. Trains and develops staff. Plans the work flow. Looks for areas of process improvement and directs available resources to accomplish this. Leads changes and implementations for direct team as pushed down through the organization.



Decision Impact

Resolves problems of a greater complexity than the Supervisor level. Improves existing processes and systems using conceptualizing, reasoning, and interpretation skills. Solutions require thorough understanding of business strategies and issues. Defines broad based solutions that would require consideration of wider implications on organization results & resources.



Hybrid Work

Position follows our hybrid work model, with a minimum of two days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs.



Storm Roles

All Non-Union Employees will serve in storm roles as appropriate to their role and skillset. Please be sure to discuss storm roles with the hiring manager for this position, as duties can vary across the Company.Examples of storm roles could include but aren't limited to duties such as: working with operations for service center support or with the communications, customer service or government affairs teams to respond to public and customer requests for information, etc.



Data Governance

Utilize data to make business decisions as appropriate for the position, support data stewardship activities and partner with IT on underlying data needs.
