The Pharma Technical Cell and Gene Therapy organization at Genentech is a dynamic and mission-driven team dedicated to making life-changing medicines a reality for patients. As the critical link between scientific discovery and clinical application, we are responsible for developing, manufacturing, and supplying Genentech's cutting-edge cell and gene therapies. We are a team of technical experts, engineers, and scientists who are passionate about solving complex challenges to ensure our innovative therapies are safe, effective, and accessible to the patients who need them. Our team is leading the development of digital capabilities to enable analysis of the complex data associated with cell and gene therapy products.

The Opportunity

We have a need for a dynamic product owner to lead large cross functional teams and drive digital transformation across our organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Management

  • Applies broad domain expertise to direct large multidisciplinary teams of data engineers, analysts, and scientists from both research and product development to deliver key digital platforms and solutions.

  • Build strong partnerships across Process and Analytical Development, Materials, Manufacturing, MSAT, research, and IT to ensure alignment and enable new initiatives.

  • Mentor and develop team members while fostering a collaborative, innovative culture.

Product & Platform Development

  • Oversee the design and implementation of the Cell and Gene Therapy Data Analytics Platform, including requirements definition, backlog management, and risk resolution.

  • Lead the strategic and tactical implementation of Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELNs) and standardized data capture solutions.

  • Champion instrumentation data management and automation frameworks aligned with the digital roadmap.

  • Drive creation of department-specific data governance policies and ensure organization-wide adoption.

  • Guide the development of program-specific solutions, including ML models for applications such as cell morphology assessment and genotoxicity safety assay platforms for cell therapy programs.

Strategic Planning & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Define strategic roadmaps for digital integration initiatives, aligning with departmental and broader Genentech/Roche business priorities (e.g., post-acquisition integration).

  • Lead internal stakeholders and external vendors to drive solutions meeting operational requirements and deliver efficiency gains.

  • Identify program capability gaps, launch initiatives to mitigate risks, and manage business-critical dependencies.

  • Represent teams at Digital Steering Committee, Leadership Meetings, staff meetings and other senior management level forums.

Communication & Alignment

  • Clearly communicate priorities, deliverables, and progress updates to leadership and stakeholders.

  • Develop impactful communication tools (slide decks, frameworks, diagrams) to articulate project scope, risks, and recommendations.

  • Facilitate alignment and decision-making sessions across diverse functional areas to drive execution under ambiguity.

Who you are

Minimum Candidate Qualifications and Experience

  • 8+ years of combined experience in digital product management, data science, AI, software development or equivalent experience.

  • Experience working with biotechnology related data tools and workflows is essential.

  • Excellent communication and strategic thinking skills to drive digital workflow adoption

  • Advanced degree (MBA, M.S. in AI/ML, Data Science, Computer Science or related field) or equivalent experience.

  • Experience leading large teams through complex digital projects requiring strategic vision and operational execution.

  • Advanced domain expertise with workflow tools, automation systems, and compliance frameworks.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $144,800 - $268,800. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
