Who we are and what we do:

The Tennessee Department of Correction operates and oversees 14 adult prisons across the state, housing some 21,000 offenders. In the community, TDOC supervises 79,000 offenders on probation, parole, or community corrections. The department operates 44 probation/parole offices in 13 districts across the state

How you make a difference in this role:

The Institutional Investigator position is assigned to the Office of Investigation and Conducts (OIC) Investigations Unit (IU) and is assigned to Turney Center Correctional Complex.

Job Overview:

Under the direction of the regional Special Agent in Charge, the Institutional Investigator is responsible for conducting investigations as required at their respective facility related to offenses relative to or affecting the Department of Correction. They may also assist in other criminal investigations, pursuit and apprehension of offenders, and other duties as assigned by the OIC Director.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide timely information regarding potential or actual security risks.
  • Prepare case reports and provide case updates.
  • Identify security issues and interdict contraband.
  • Coordinate use-of-force reports for accurate, thorough, and timely I information Develop and maintain positive working relationships with TDOC staff and External Partners.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Investigation Unit Director.
  • Conduct administrative and criminal investigations at their respective facility and assist Special Agents with other criminal investigations.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and supervise institutional and vehicle searches. Develop confidential informant resources. Appear in court to give testimony.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma and two years of relevant correctional or law enforcement experience is required. A Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university is preferred.

Additional Employment Requirements:

  • All applicants must be a U.S. Citizen, 21 years of age, and possess a valid Tennessee drivers license at the time of hire.
  • Applicants must successfully pass a structured interview, meet medical and psycho logical qualifications, and complete a background check.
  • Applicants must be willing to and able to qualify with, carry, and use assigned weapons.
  • Candidate must participate in pre-employment, random and all other drug testing required.
