LOCATION OF (1) POSITION(S) TO BE FILLED: DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTION, CORRECTION ACADEMY DIVISION, MORGAN COUNTY

A Motor Vehicle Records screening will be conducted prior to employment.

This is an on-site position.

This position requires a criminal background check. Therefore, you may be required to provide information about your criminal history in order to be considered for this position.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelors degree and experience equivalent to two years of full-time employment performing, supervising, or instructing in one or a combination of the following: security, casework services in a correctional setting, law enforcement, probation or parole.

Substitution of Experience for Required Education: Qualifying experience in security, casework services in a correctional setting, law enforcement, probation or parole may substitute for the required education to a maximum of four years (e.g., experience equivalent to one year of full-time work in one or a combination of the above listed fields may substitute for one year of the required education).

Necessary Special Qualifications: Applicants for this class must:

  1. Complete a criminal history disclosure form in a manner approved by the appointing authority;
  2. Agree to release all records involving their criminal history to the appointing authority;
  3. Supply a fingerprint sample in a manner prescribed by the TBI for a fingerprint based criminal history records check;
  4. Possess a valid motor vehicle operators license at the time of appointment in some positions;
  5. Certain positions require that employees meet qualification standards and maintain job and performance certifications related to training programs, POST Certification, and other specialized duty requirements necessary to perform the specialized duties of the position;
  6. Must participate in pre-employment, random, and for cause drug and substance abuse testing as required by departmental policy and procedures.

Overview

Under general direction, is responsible for supervising a small staff of instructors and for developing, delivering, and evaluating adult, youth, and community related treatment, security, and auxiliary training modules at the Correctional Training Academy and related work as required. This is a supervisory class in the Correctional Academy sub-series. An employee in this class is responsible for supervising a small staff of correctional instructors in adult, community, and youth services program areas. This class differs from that of Correctional Academy Instructor 1 in that employees of the latter are not supervisors.

Responsibilities

  1. Supervises subordinate correctional instructors.
  2. Plans and conducts training programs and conferences for new and established procedures.
  3. Prepares materials and classroom for class activities.
  4. Organizes production and design of guides, course and curriculum materials, or obtains training manuals for various programs.
  5. Represents the organization in a variety of formal and informal contacts regarding training.
  6. Records, documents and maintains files for students.
  7. Assesses training needs through surveys, interviews with employees, focus groups, or consultation with managers and instructors.
  8. Advises and teaches students about rules and regulations as well as policy and procedures.
