Position description

The Program in Religious Studies announces a part time lecturer position for Winter Quarter 2026. We are seeking candidates with robust teaching experience who can contribute to our undergraduate course in Abrahamic religions with special attention to the traditions' internal diversity and ongoing interpretations. This is a large course of 180-200 students who come from disciplines across campus, and includes discussion sections hosted by 2-3 teaching assistants. Beyond the ability to convey the required content, we are seeking a teacher who will creatively help students engage the study of religion as a "critical multidisciplinary lens into world religions, global philosophies, history, and cultural expressions that continue to shape the contemporary world," as expressed in our programmatic aim.

Religious Studies 5A: World Religious I (Winter 2026* // Tues & Thurs 5:00 - 6:20)

An introduction to the history, doctrine, culture, and writing of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

The program will create a pool of candidates and will make selections when the final budget is approved. The salary per course is $8872.13.

Requirements: Ph.D. in Religion or related field, teaching experience at the college level and familiarity with or willingness to learn the CANVAS learning platform. Preference for those with experience working with Teaching Assistants and those who can demonstrate evidence of using interactive learning methods for student engagement.
