SUMMARY

The Web Accessibility and Compliance Specialist plays a key role in supporting the college's commitment to accessibility and equal opportunity. This position assists in managing the institution's web accessibility compliance program and ensures digital content meets federal requirements under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and WCAG 2.1 AA standards. The Specialist works closely with faculty, staff, and departments to deliver inclusive design practices, conduct accessibility audits, and provide guidance on creating accessible websites, documents, and digital media.

This role requires strong technical knowledge of accessibility standards and tools, excellent communication skills to translate complex concepts for diverse audiences, and the ability to independently lead projects from assessment through resolution. With expertise in accessibility testing platforms, digital content platforms, and compliance regulations, the Specialist advances the college's mission of fostering an inclusive and accessible environment for all.

***This is a casual (non benefit eligible, part time (less than 29hrs/week), temporary position through 06/30/26 with the possibility of extension through 12/31/2026.***

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist in managing the college's web accessibility compliance program.
  2. Work closely with and educate employees and college departments on digital accessibility and guide them on how to design and develop accessible documents and related content.
  3. Conduct accessibility audits and assessments of intranet sites, documents, social media, web, and other programs.
  4. Maintain thorough knowledge of web accessibility requirements under the American with Disabilities Act and federal regulation.
  5. Assist with other compliance-related projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Web development, or another related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience related to accessibility and digital documents.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in managing projects, including responsibility for developing and monitoring project timelines, meeting established deadlines, and ensuring accountability among stakeholders to achieve project goals.
  • A working knowledge of W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1 AA) and conducting accessibility audits.

OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:
  • Experience or willing to learn, interpreting and applying laws and guidelines related to web accessibility, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify and resolve accessibility barriers.
  • Ability to work independently; suggest, outline, and drive accessibility initiatives from start to finish.
  • Experience working with accessibility testing tools, such as JAWS and NVDA.
  • Experience with manual, automated, and semi-automated accessibility review processes, including WAVE, Color Contrast Analyzer, and/or AxeDevTools.
  • Experience with managing complex projects.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Experience working with Adobe PDF documents, Microsoft and Google Suites, and social media and accessibility relating to these programs.
