The Opportunity:

Avantor, a Global Fortune 500 company, is looking for a flexible, forward-thinking and motivated Associate Scientist to optimize our Biopharma Production organization. This Bridgewater, NJ/ Innovation Center role is full-time, on-site.

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, or a related scientific discipline

Required Experience (1+ yrs):

  • Hands-on laboratory experience in an academic or industry setting. Internships/ co-ops will be considered; or as demonstrated by completion of course work.
  • Working knowledge of experimental laboratory instruments and scientific products.
  • Collaboration skills (IE: Microsoft Office).
  • Organizational and time-management skills.
  • Hands-on execution of chemical laboratory experiments.
  • Conducting experimental work following Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) principles.
  • Data analysis and scientific writing.
  • Problem-solving /attention to detail.
  • Business level written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Being responsible for planning and performing laboratory experiments (IE: materials synthesis/purification, cell culture, fermentation, downstream processes along with chemical or biochemical analysis to advance new product/application projects through development phases).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in pharmaceutical, agrochemical and/ or materials R&D.
  • Software tools (IE: ChemDraw, LIMS, or electronic lab notebooks ELNs).
  • GMP/GLP or regulatory guidelines (e.g., FDA, EPA).
  • Direct laboratory experience in synthesis, purification and characterization of organic molecules, polymers and inorganic material.
  • Experience preparing experimental protocols, SOPs and analytical test methods.
  • Operation and routine maintenance of laboratory instruments and troubleshooting procedures in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) experience.

Working from Avantor's Innovation Center, the R&D Engineer will be a member of a multi-disciplinary team of Scientists focused on the development of new products.

An entry level opportunity the Associate Scientist, Chemistry/ Biopharma will contribute to Avantor's new product introduction initiatives to meet material needs of bioprocessing workflows by assisting in the development of new molecule synthesis and purification processes.

The Associate Scientist will:

  • Maintain a laboratory area
  • Utilize safe practices while working in the laboratory environment as per EHS guidelines and policy.
  • Support the preparation of materials/samples following defined protocols.
  • Perform duties with the highest regard for safety and quality.
  • Perform independently and manage responsibilities while following scientific direction.
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs. minimum.
  • Must be skilled at prioritizing tasks, problem solving, and meeting deadlines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The physical requirements of the job are for associates to talk, hear, bend/stoop, squat, crawl, climb height, reach above shoulder height, crouch, kneel, balance, and push/pull. Furthermore, the job requires associates to lift/carry/push or pull up to 25 pounds with or without assistance. Associates use both hands for repetitive actions such as grasping and manipulating as well as both feet for repetitive movement operating foots controls. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Pay Transparency:

The expected pre-tax pay for this position is

$66,100.00 - $110,200.00

Actual pay may differ depending on relevant factors such as prior experience and geographic location.
