Your responsibilities
Job Summary The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) is the guardian of excellence in the business unit's supply chain. The SQE will ensure that every component and material from external partners meets the business unit's rigorous quality standards, regulatory requirements, and production timelines. Working cross-functionally with procurement, engineering, and production teams, the SQE will drive continuous improvement initiatives, resolve supplier-related issues, and elevate overall product reliability. Compensation: Base salary range of $75,000 - $95,000 annually, plus annual bonus

Copper and Brass Sales, a leader in metal distribution, is seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) to ensure excellence across our supply chain. This role is ideal for a quality-driven professional who thrives in cross-functional environments and is passionate about continuous improvement.

Role Summary:

The SQE is responsible for ensuring that all materials and components from external suppliers meet our rigorous quality standards, regulatory requirements, and production timelines. This role collaborates closely with procurement, engineering, and production teams to resolve supplier issues, drive improvements, and support customer compliance reporting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate and qualify new suppliers based on capabilities and quality systems
  • Conduct on-site audits to verify compliance with company and regulatory standards
  • Develop and maintain supplier quality plans, control plans, and inspection criteria
  • Analyze incoming quality data to identify trends and improvement opportunities
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions for supplier nonconformances
  • Monitor supplier performance metrics and facilitate regular business reviews
  • Collaborate on new product introductions and design changes to ensure supplier readiness
  • Support customer-required material compliance submissions (e.g., IMDS, BOMCheck)
  • Participate in cross-functional initiatives including cost reduction and sustainability
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical, Quality) or related field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in supplier quality, manufacturing quality, or process engineering
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9001, IATF 16949, AS9100, or similar standards
  • Proficiency in quality tools such as FMEA, SPC, 8D, Fishbone diagrams, and statistical analysis
  • Demonstrated success in leading CAPA initiatives
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to travel up to 30% for supplier visits and audits
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to metals and machinery
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified AS9100 or ISO 9001 Auditor
  • Familiarity with ASTM standards for Steel, Aluminum, Copper, and Brass
  • Knowledge of REACH, RoHS, CMRT, Prop 65, and other material compliance regulations
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification
  • Experience with ERP/SAP and Quality Management Systems
  • Proven track record of reducing supplier defects and driving cost-saving programs
