Job Summary:

The Sr Manager, Battery Solutions will oversee Masimo's battery test lab and be responsible for the the requirement definition, design and quality of custom and off-the-shelf primary and secondary battery packs and cells. This role will oversee and ensure vendor compliance, validate specifications, and manage internal testing to confirm quality, safety, and performance. In addition, the Sr Manager will collaborate cross-functionally to influence product strategy and leverage battery characterization testing to optimize battery health and diagnostics, supporting Masimo's mission of delivering safe, reliable, and innovative medical technologies.

Duties & Responsibilities:



  • Manage daily operations of the battery test laboratory, ensuring safe and efficient use of equipment and facilities. Collaborate with Facilities to ensure battery lab maintains safety
  • Collaborate with electrical design engineers, mechanical design engineers, industrial design team and vendors to ensure battery requirements are accurate and meet the overall product requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to EH&S standards, regulatory requirements, and company safety policies, including oversight of hazardous materials handling, internal audits, and external regulatory inspections of battery lab operations.
  • Manage test schedules of multiple projects simultaneously, both internally and with external vendors
  • Recommended battery chemistries for end-applications weighing trade-offs between cost, reliability, and performance
  • Maintaining test equipment and managing equipment calibrations in collaboration with Calibration Coordinators
  • Optimize battery design and deployment process including required tests, expected schedules, and formalize processes and procedures
  • Stay current with global battery regulations, standards, and industry trends to ensure Masimo's products meet compliance requirements and remain competitive.
  • Execute and oversee internal and external testing to ensure battery specifications
  • Research and select battery vendors both domestic and abroad
  • Maintain technical communication with battery vendors
  • Partner with Supplier Quality to conduct vendor site audits and corrective action activities; challenge vendor manufacturing processes and validations to ensure robustness.
  • Collaborate with design engineering to characterize the long-term reliability and performance of batteries across intended use environments and end-applications
  • Characterize effect to battery long-term performance of aging, charge cycles, temperature cycling, cell-imbalance, and identification of other factors
  • Understand and characterize trade-offs of charge and discharge parameters on long-term battery health
  • Communicate clearly both peer-to-peer, executive management, and external vendors


Minimum Qualifications:



  • 7+ years of relevant industry knowledge
  • Knowledge of data analysis techniques, including basic statistical methods
  • Experience with battery testing and lab management
  • Experience in the development of test procedures and writing test reports
  • Excellent verbal and written communications and analytical skills appropriate for interaction with all team members (engineers, technicians, management, and vendors)
  • Maintains an active passport with ability to travel to vendors foreign and domestic as needed


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Highly-regulated industry experience: medical/military/aviation
  • Experience with Agile PLM and Jira for task tracking management
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant compliance standards and test methods for battery cells and packs, such as UL1642, UN38.3, UL2054, IEC 62881, IEC 62619, IEC 61058, UL/IEC 62133, CE, UKCA
  • Experience in custom battery cell design
  • Experience in custom battery pack design


Education:

Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science, Physics or related field.

Compensation:

The anticipated salary range for this position is $170,000 - $220,000 plus benefits. Actual placement within the range is dependent on multiple factors, including but not limited to skills, education, and experience.

Physical requirements/Work Environment

This position primarily works in an office environment. It requires frequent sitting, standing and walking. Daily use of a computer and other computing and digital devices is required. May stand for extended periods when facilitating meetings or walking in the facilities.
