The Driver is responsible for providing safe, timely, and courteous transportation for residents to and from various activities while providing quality service. To maintain paperwork and records in addition to maintaining the community's vehicles in good working condition to include monthly and pre-trip vehicle inspections. Responsible for ensuring effective communication with residents, families, and for notifying the Assisted Living Coordinator and or Oasis Coordinator of any changes in a resident's condition or behavior. Location: Grand Oaks Washington D.C. Shift: FT/Days
Education:
- High school diploma or GED desired.
- Must have appropriate federal and state license with an acceptable driving record
in accordance with federal Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and state regulations.
- Commercial driver's license (CDL) may be required.
- Must be knowledgeable of all safety precautions and comply with safety
procedures. - Must be at least 18 years of age.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Driving
- Provides transportation services for residents.
- Assists residents with any special needs during transportation; such as the
following but not limited to, carrying packages, opening doors, assisting residents onto and out of the vehicle, and to the point of destination required. - Always Maintains focus on driving; directs tasks and passenger
interactions to on-board support staff while vehicle is in motion. - Personal cell phone usage is NOT allowed at any time while performing
Driver duties. - Provides miscellaneous pick-up and delivery services as needed.
- Always demonstrates positive resident relations.
- Demonstrates safety, loss prevention, and infection control procedures.
- Coordinates the activities of other Grand Oaks team members who are
performing in a driver assistance role, "spotter", or resident care capacity. - Competent knowledge of local area including traffic patterns to
closely estimate travel times and plans appropriate routes to destinations. - Resident safety should be observed and always considered.
- Reports any resident's change of condition to Assisted Living Coordinator and
or Oasis Coordinator.
Vehicle Maintenance and Supplies
- Maintains all community vehicles in good working condition, including
cleanliness, fully charged community cell phone, equipment, check-in lights and operation of vehicle, fire extinguishers, first aid supplies, blood spill clean-up kit, and other safety equipment or assistive devices (step stool to assist residents onto and off the vehicle). - Performs routine preventative maintenance as directed by Grand Oaks
policy, federal, and state requirements as applicable and all regular state and local inspections, permits, and registration requirements. - Maintains all tools, equipment, and supplies in proper condition.
- Assists with the Grand Oaks vehicle(s) registration and license plates
renewal process. - Inspects and documents vehicle condition on a monthly and per trip basis,
completing the approved Grand Oaks forms. - Handles and stores oxygen and other potentially dangerous materials in
accordance with Grand Oaks policy and authority having jurisdiction.
Risk Management and Safety
- Partners with community team to ensure community is in compliance with
OSHA requirements and promotion of Risk Management programs and policies; adherence to safety rules and regulations. - Practices safety procedures at all times including Personal Protective
Equipment (PPE), fire extinguishers, MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets), and Lockout Tagout procedures.
General
- Successfully completes and passes all pre-employment, post-accident, and
annual random drug and alcohol screening as applicable per federal Department of Transportation (DOT) and state regulations. - Attends in-services as required by federal and state regulations and as
needed. - Responds in a timely manner to requests and concerns from residents, family
members, and team members. - Maintains and protects the confidentiality of resident information at all times.
- Notifies the Assisted Living Coordinator and/or Oasis Coordinator of any
resident concern and/or change in condition. Immediately reports all vehicle accidents, incidents, and safety problems to the Executive Director. - Reviews, reads, notates, and initials Transportation Log for any needs and or
requests and to learn about pertinent information and any resident's physical and behavioral changes. - Trains Grand Oaks team members on driving, driver assistance procedures,
"spotting", vehicle maintenance, and safety as needed. - Adheres to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and Grand Oaks
policies pertaining to DOT drivers.
Training and Contributing to Team Success
- Actively participates as a member of a team and committed to working toward
team goals.
- Committed to serving our residents and guests through our Principles of
Service. - Contributes to the overall engagement programs and processes (customer
and team member engagement) including participating in the team member engagement survey and engagement improvement planning workshops. - Attends regular meetings; Town Hall, Department Team Meetings, Cross
Over, and others as directed by the Supervisor/Department Coordinator.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Ability to react calmly in emergency situations and be considerate.
- Ability to operate a chair lift and secure regular and mechanical wheelchairs and
scooters. - Ability to work semi-independently without direct supervision by following all
community procedures and guidelines and having the ability to follow through on assigned tasks and demonstrate initiative. - Able to make responsible choices and decisions and act in a resident's best
interest. - Possess written and verbal skills for effective communication.
