Job Title: Drupal Developer Lead
Clearance Required: Public Trust
Work Location: Remote.

Alpha Omega seeks a Drupal Developer Lead to guide and mentor a team of developers supporting the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). This role requires hands-on Drupal development expertise combined with leadership skills to foster collaboration, peer review, and shared solution design. The Developer Lead will play a key role in ensuring technical quality, driving innovation, and cultivating a culture of continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to the development team, ensuring best practices, coding standards, and continuous improvement.
  • Perform peer reviews and encourage collaboration on technical solutions, design walkthroughs, and shared problem-solving.
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration with designers, QA, infrastructure, and content leads to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Hands-on Drupal development including custom module and theme creation, integration, and enhancements within Drupal 9/10.
  • Lead modernization and enhancement projects to improve site usability, performance, accessibility (508 compliance), and user experience.
  • Provide technical oversight for AWS-based architecture, including chatbot integrations (Node.js, AWS Lambda, etc.).
  • Support Operations and Maintenance (O&M) web content updates on SAMHSA.gov and related sites, ensuring compliance with federal web standards (508, plain language, SEO, USWDS).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues, acting as the escalation point for the development team.


Required Qualifications:

Experience/Skills:



  • 6+ years of Drupal development experience (front-end and back-end).
  • Proven leadership experience mentoring developers and conducting code reviews.
  • Strong understanding of Drupal 9/10 architecture, custom modules/themes, and API integrations.
  • Experience collaborating across teams and presenting technical solutions to stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to obtain security clearance - Public Trust.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Familiarity with United States Web Design System (USWDS).
  • Experience with AWS cloud services (Lambda, S3, API Gateway).
  • Experience with Tableau or other data visualization tools (nice to have).
  • Previous experience with federal web modernization projects.


Salary and Benefit Information:

The likely salary range for this position is $110,000 - $145,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position and could fall outside of this range.
