Overview:

We are looking for an energetic, analytical, and creative thinker, who enjoys recommending solutions to existing Securian clients and building relationships.

This is a high-profile position where you will be the face of Securian to our clients.

As the account executive for the Employees Retirement System (ERS) of Texas, as well as other State and public sector clients, you will provide strategic account management to some of the largest clients in Securian's Group Insurance division through strong internal relationships, executive level client contacts, and key channel partners. You will be responsible for the successful retention, growth and cross-sell of employee benefit clients. Effectiveness in distribution partner and client relationships, contract renewal negotiation, problem resolution, and solutions/consultative selling are critical to the mutual success of our clients and Securian.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Establish business relationships and an overall strategy for retention and growth with assigned clients and distribution partners by developing an understanding of their business vision, goals and needs.

  • Be primarily responsible for the retention and revenue growth of assigned accounts.

  • Act as the primary resource to resolve client account-level issues and utilize leadership and collaboration skills to manage client projects within Securian.

  • Work with clients to review and resolve issues related to proper application of statutes, rules and contract provisions in specific situations.

  • Collaborate with clients to assist in developing, drafting and reviewing proposed statutory, rules or contract changes.

  • Utilize strategic consultation to drive client satisfaction and overall revenue growth, through in-force products and recommendations of Securian's group life and voluntary benefit products.

  • Analyze plan data and industry trends to identify and recommend solutions and enhancements in plan design, products, services, technology and marketing.

  • Conduct client meetings, virtually and in person.

  • Communicate frequently, both in person and virtually, with client and staff contacts, establishing strong relationships with decision makers and C-level client contacts. Act as liaison between client and Securian Service and Leadership team.

  • Negotiate contract renewals that support the continued profitable growth of Securian by understanding and communicating complex financial analysis and pricing recommendations.

  • Identify inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement; recommend changes to enhance client satisfaction and engagement.

  • Work closely with direct leader and Sales Vice Presidents to increase sales opportunities with potential clients, including attendance at finalist and distribution partner meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Strategic thinking skills to optimize business retention and identify opportunities for growth.

  • Ability to identify root problems and collaborate with internal partners to ensure operational efficiencies.

  • Strong decision making and problem-solving skills, working with operations and home office teams to appropriately prioritize and resolve issues related to client plan management.

  • Strong initiative and leadership in building relationships, identifying issues and working proactively to meet client and business needs.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentations to varying audiences.

  • Proficiency in financial analysis and in the financial aspects of group benefit plans.

  • Technical ability to understand and describe group products and their benefits and to address corporate clients' concerns on taxes, etc.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, leading a wide-variety of engagements with the client, via in-person and virtual settings.

  • Initiative and leadership skills to make decisions and respond appropriately.

  • Persuasion and negotiation skills to overcome objections and hurdles in managing client and business expectations.

  • Strong diplomacy skills to avert obstacles in negotiations and challenging relationships.

  • Organizational skills and results orientation, with follow through.

  • Willingness to locate in Texas, and ability to travel independently, including pre-scheduled and short-notice meetings. Travel occurs approximately 35% of the year and schedules fluctuate depending on business needs.

  • Ability to remain apolitical and support client values for program management such as equal treatment for all employers, ethical behavior supported by legislation, providing a strong and consistent plan for members without drawing undue attention to the program.

  • Ability to obtain life/health license within 3 months.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8-10 years of experience in relationship/sales experience in a senior level business to business role.

  • Experience in Employee Benefits (Group Insurance, Human Resources, or Consulting).

The estimated base pay range for this job is:

$86,500.00 - $160,000.00
