MANUFACTURING ENGINEERING INTERN - (PINE BROOK NJ)
The qualified candidate will become part of the Manufacturing or Manufacturing Engineering teams at Kearfott Guidance and Navigation division. The selected candidate will work in a dynamic people-focused environment where you will work directly with experienced technicians, engineers, and scientists to enhance your skills and develop a higher level of confidence in your capabilities.
Manufacturing Interns will assist the manufacture of inertial navigation systems and the opto-mechanical sensors that form the basis of these systems.
Engineering Interns will:
* Help in the coordination and development of engineering solutions; 2) research and determine requirements for components and systems; 3) derive technical data from test data and analysis; and 4) defend engineering solutions during internal reviews.
* Other responsibilities may include: trade studies, project planning, system modeling, review of technical and management data, performance assessment, problem identification, corrective action planning and implementation.
* Work with engineering teams to understand and evaluate the effects of changes in system requirement and designs.
* Support design trade studies evaluating cost and effectiveness.
* Help develop computer codes to evaluate mathematical models.
* Develop graphics displaying results of analyses.
* Support reports and briefings describing results and significance of analyses performed.
* Support definition, design and development of system requirements.
* Support assessment of current system architecture and limitations.
* Support technical investigations in systems design.
Required Skills:
* Demonstrated creative problem solving skills.
* GPA of 3.2 or above preferred.
* Experience in Microsoft Office.
* Excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills.
* Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university degree program pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Physics, Optics, Industrial Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or other similar engineering or scientific majors.
* Knowledgeable in some of the following areas: software programming, database development, SolidWorks 3D computer-aided design, lasers and free-space optics, fiber optics, lean six-sigma manufacturing, materials science, chemical process engineering, optical fabrication (lapping, grinding, polishing, CNC machining, etc.).
* Have coursework, interest, motivation and experience that provide the foundation to develop an expertise in one or more of the above engineering specialties.
* Completed at least sophomore year of college/university.
* Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
* General knowledge and understanding of mathematical modeling and analysis methods.
* Programming skills (e.g. EXCEL, LabVIEW, MathCad, MATLAB, Simulink, C++, or equivalent).
* Must be a US Citizen.

Our 2026 Summer Manufacturing Internship projects will focus on the design of new manufacturing tools and fixtures to improve yield, throughput, and reliability of Kearfott-manufactured products. The design of these fixtures and tools typically involves a cross-functional collaboration of mechanical, electrical, optical, and software engineering principles. Describe, in your own words, how your background and skills could help support a cross-functional team working on these projects.
Must be able to work full-time (40 hours per week) for a minimum of 10 weeks during the summer of 2026. Internship Program expected to run from June 1, 2026 - August 10, 2026
The salary range is $20.00 - $30.00/hourly. Final compensation amount will be determined based on factors such as experience level, skill set, school year, major, etc.
