Position Summary: In the absence of, or at the direction of the Snow Safety Director, the Snow Safety Asst. will be responsible for monitoring and directing the daily "on mountain" operations of snow safety activities. Also responsible to help minimize the risk to the skiing guest through avalanche control, first aid, and mountain rescue. The position will enforce company policies and maintain departmental professionalism.

Essential Functions and Major Responsibilities:
  • Monitor the weather forecast.
  • Maintain current knowledge of snow pack by producing semi-monthly profiles.
  • Direct and organize patrollers in avalanche control activities.
  • Perform avalanche control.
  • Keep current on regulations and safety standards.
  • Perform regular patrol duties.
  • Maintain avalanche control equipment.
  • Document all historical snow and avalanche related activities.
Secondary Responsibilities:
  • Other duties as assigned.

Specific Job Skills:

License/Certifications - Level I Avalanche

Technical - None Are computer skills needed? Specific programs?

Physical Capabilities - Similar to demands as ski patroller position.

Additional - Knowledge of avalanche phenomenon and ski area rescue, ability to effectively manage ski patrol personnel with leadership to direct patrollers in the service, safety, and rescue or area guests, and understanding of mountain operations and company policies. Also, skills and credentials required for ski patroller position.

Education/Related Experience:

Minimum education required - English reading, writing and communication skills. High school diploma or equivalent, first aid and avalanche training required.

Minimum time in related position - Minimum of 3 years experience as a professional patroller.
