Battery Build and Validation Supervisor

The Battery Build and Validation Supervisor will supervise, mentor and train our Battery Validation Engineering team, Battery Build Engineering team and our Battery Test and Validation team.

The Battery Build Engineering team is responsible for the following functions:



  • Prioritizing, diagnosing and writing work instructions for packs coming back to Pilot for rework or repair
  • Electrical and software prevalidation of battery component kits for builds and rework
  • Electrical End of Line Testing to validate the pack prior to sending it to its vehicle or test lab
  • Keeping accurate records for all battery build and rework activities


The Battery Test and Validation team is responsible for the following functions:



  • Define the DVP&R required for all battery programs, including new battery development projects, value optimization projects, homologation and regulatory testing projects etc.
  • Review the DVP&R with the Chief Engineer and Family Manager, and agree on the number of packs and level of packs to be tested through each phase
  • Organize, set up, and carry out all required battery pack tests at internal and external labs
  • Coordinate post test evaluations and teardowns
  • Finalize test reports and complete all validation activities required to launch the battery program
  • Interface with the Pilot plant team on all issues relating to battery builds, such as scheduling, part storage, kit pulls, testing upgrades, equipment setup, required tooling, perishable components, safety and security, etc.
  • Act as a local expert in Battery Validation tests and processes and interface with Battery Validation COE to achieve resolution to any questions or issues
  • For each battery validation project, obtain the DVP&R, create the Statement of Work and the Test Cost Estimate for outside testing, and work with Purchasing to send out the RFQ for the testing work to various suppliers with the necessary testing capabilities Review the quotations and select a testing supplier with Purchasing
  • Write requisition for testing costs and obtain approvals to issue Purchase order.
  • Foster positive relationships with existing and new testing sources both internal and external to Stellantis
  • Assist validation engineers with documentation preparation to be presented to the Battery Compliance Committee to confirm that all necessary testing and validation was completed to satisfy performance, durability and regulatory approval and achieve approval for production

Basic Qualifications:



  • A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical or Computer Engineering or related degree field
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in automotive component validation, ideally in battery packs or electrical components
  • Familiarity with automotive traction battery design, components, and electric circuits
  • Strong interpersonal communication, team/leadership skills/experience
  • Familiarity with automotive validation processes such as DFMEA, DVP&R, DFSS and DRBTR
  • Critical character traits to ensure success: Action Oriented, Dealing with Ambiguity, Customer Focus, Problem Solving


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Master's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Battery Testing Experience: AC Impedance, Cyclic Voltammetry, EOL Testing
  • Software Experience: Vector CANalyzer, Excel (Data Analysis), PowerPoint, MATLAB, Python
  • Validation Tool Experience: DVP&R, DFMEA, DRBFM, DRBTR, Root Cause Analysis
  • Previous High Voltage Safety training and experience troubleshooting and working on high voltage devices
