Job Summary
As part of UCDH IT, Unified Communications (UC) provides planning, implementation and operational activities to deliver Wide Area Network (WAN), Local Area Network (LAN), Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), Private Branch Exchange (PBX) telephones, wireless, video, voicemail, automated call distribution (ACD) and workstation service for the entire UCDH enterprise. In response to institutional requirements, the department provides technological support for the cost-effective use of computers, software, telecommunications, video and networking to include installation, training and problem resolution.
The Network and VoIP Analyst will assist UC team in maintaining 24x7x365 high availability and mission critical voice and data network. The Network and VoIP Analyst will be responsible for resolving daily voice and data network issues in response to IT Operations Center alerts and escalations. This may involve working with Security Team, project managers and other staff in order to resolve a multitude of voice and data network adds moves and changes, repairs, monitoring and performance issue's
The Network and VoIP Analyst is an experienced professional who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field; independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; possesses broad job knowledge; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions.
Under general direction, the Network and VoIP Analyst applies skills as a seasoned, experienced communications professional with a full understanding of industry practices and relevant policies and procedures.
The Network and VoIP Analyst is an experienced and qualified technical professional in the area of configuring, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of local and wide area network, including but not limited to routers, switches, VPN, WLAN, VoIP, authentication servers, load balancers, security technologies and network monitoring tools. Under general direction, the Network and VoIP Analyst is recognized as an experience professional in network support services of UCDH with responsibility for enterprise-wide voice, video and data network support. The Network and VoIP Analyst must have the knowledge, skills and abilities to make decisions that broadly affect the entire UCDH. - Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
- Demonstrated experience maintaining large enterprise communications and network systems
- Experience with of various network hardware platforms, network related protocols and software including understanding of OSI layer 2 and 3 protocols at a complex level and related technical standards critical to the operation of interconnected networks
- Experience working with LAN protocols including dynamic routing protocols (OSPF, etc.), gateway protocols (BGP, EIGRP, etc.), and backbone protocols
- Experience with network diagnostic and performance management tools and software.
- Experience performing Private Branch Exchange (PBX) telephone systems add, moves, changes and repairs remotely and in the field when required.
- Experience maintaining an enterprise size Cisco VoIP technology architecture and design: including the integration between Cisco Call Manager (CUCM), UCCM and Cisco Unity Voice mail systems, Package Contact Center Enterprise (PCCE) VoIP Automated Call Distribution (ACD) systems and applications, VoIP hardware and application, and maintaining a large network dial-plan, calling search spaces, and device pools configurations.
- Experience with WAN and VoIP protocols, including MGCP, SCCP, SIP, H.323, T1, ISDN, Frame Relay and QOS
- Experience configuring network switches, routers, firewalls, VPN, authentication servers, load balancers, wireless controllers, access points, and other network components.
- Experience with telecommunications applications such as but not limited to (Cisco Unity Voice Mail, PCCE Automated Call Distribution, Call Manager, IP Celerate, NEC Public Branch Exchange (PBX), features and functions for a large enterprise network.
- Experience providing good customer service in completing customer requests related to but not limited to voice mail accounts changes, Cisco VoIP phones installs, NEC/Cisco phones in the field, phones repairs, monitor PBX / VoIP and Carriers services, phone features and functionality supported by IT Unified Communication.
- Experience with Telecommunications tasks, related to the installation of vendor services, telecom services, collaboration services, features and functionality supported by IT Unified Communication.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
- Experience with the change control and enterprise notification to coordinate changes within a 24/7 environment
- Experience providing good customer service in completing customer requests related to but not limited to voice mail accounts changes, Cisco VoIP phones installs, NEC/Cisco phones in the field, phones repairs, monitor PBX / VoIP and Carriers services, phone features and functionality supported by IT Unified Communication.
- Experience with Telecommunications tasks, related to the installation of vendor services, telecom services, collaboration services, features and functionality supported by IT Unified Communication.
- Demonstrated thorough knowledge of professional communications and network concepts necessary to resolve issues using established parameters, creativity and independent judgment, escalating as necessary.
- Thorough understanding of various network hardware platforms, network related protocols and software including understanding of OSI layer 3 protocols at a basic level and layer 2 protocols at a complex level and related technical standards critical to the operation of interconnected networks.
- Thorough and broad knowledge and experience working with network management systems.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.

Preferred Qualifications
- A current CCNA certification is preferred.
- Experience managing projects and meeting critical deadlines
- Advanced working experience with the change control and enterprise notification to coordinate changes within a 24/7 environment
- Experience performing NEC (Fusion) Private Branch Exchange (PBX) telephone systems add, moves, changes and repairs.
- Experience utilize a Service Now ticketing system for trouble tickets and service requests to complete adds, moves and changes for complex communications and network system.
- In-depth experience with network diagnostic and performance management tools and software
- Demonstrated diverse problem-solving skills
- Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines
- Self-motivated person who can work independently and as part of a team.

Work Environment UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
