DevSecOps Engineer

Overview

The DevSecOps Engineer is responsible for bridging the gap between development and operations by automating workflows, improving system reliability, and enabling efficient software delivery. This role focuses on designing, building, and maintaining cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and ensuring scalable, cost-effective solutions with a focus on security in everything they do

A combination of education, experience, and training should qualify the candidate.

Preferred certifications include but are not limited to:

  • AWS Certified DevSecOps Engineer
  • Microsoft Certified: DevSecOps Engineer Expert
  • Google Cloud Professional DevSecOps Engineer
  • Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)
  • Docker Certified Associate
  • AWS or Azure Automation Certification

Role and Responsibilities

The DevSecOps Engineer ensures that cloud environments and software delivery pipelines are highly available, efficient, and secure, supporting continuous integration and deployment processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and manage CI/CD pipelines to automate the build, test, and deployment processes.
  • Develop and maintain cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Collaborate with development, operations, and security teams to optimize workflows and improve system performance.
  • Automate processes for infrastructure provisioning, monitoring, and scaling along with shutting down processes and systems when not being used.
  • Manage cloud environments (AWS, Azure) to ensure scalability, performance, and cost-efficiency.
  • Monitor system performance and reliability using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or Splunk.
  • Implement and manage containerized environments using Docker and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes.
  • Implement logging, monitoring, and alerting frameworks to ensure system reliability and uptime.
  • Conduct troubleshooting and root cause analysis for incidents, ensuring prompt resolution.
  • Work closely with application teams to support cloud-native and microservices-based architectures.
  • Stay updated on emerging DevSecOps tools, technologies, and best practices.
  • Create support models for various Cloud environments including Sev and Sev escalation, notification, troubleshooting and resolution processes.

Candidate Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in DevSecOps engineering, cloud infrastructure, or related fields.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, Azure DevSecOps, or AWS CodePipeline.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation using Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
  • Strong knowledge of version control systems like Git.
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and their native DevSecOps tools.
  • Solid understanding of networking, firewalls, and security best practices for cloud environments.
  • Knowledge of Agile and DevSecOps methodologies and practices.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Required Skills

  • Expertise in automating infrastructure provisioning and management using IaC.
  • Proficiency in building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for continuous software delivery.
  • Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure, scalability, and cost optimization.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills for resolving complex technical issues.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Drive innovation in DevSecOps practices to improve efficiency and reliability.
  • Participate in planning and executing cloud migration and modernization projects.
  • Provide training and mentorship to internal teams on DevSecOps tools and practices.
  • Assist in developing cost and resource estimates for cloud and DevSecOps projects.
