MFD Sustainability Vision:

MFD and its employees lead out in sustainably providing meetinghouse, mission, seminary, institute, welfare and recreational properties and other resources to God's children now and in the future, with an emphasis on water conservation and energy efficiency.

The position is on-site in Salt Lake City, UT.

Energy Manager Purpose:

To assist Meetinghouse Facilities Department personnel in operational and project-related decisions regarding energy management at Church meetinghouse properties. Energy management initiatives help to provide responsible stewardship both in natural resources and financial savings. This position will track and analyze data in coordination with energy procurement teams and make recommendations to cross departmental senior leaders, department management, project managers, maintenance personnel, and facilities managers for the wise use of resources (e.g., water, air, gas, electricity, and steam).

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct complete analysis, research, and understanding of all utility energy usage at meetinghouse facilities and other costs imposed by utility companies. Identify options, determine best practices, prepare reports, and make recommendations to leverage utility companies' rebates, incentives, and other billing methods to get the most financial benefit for the Church.
  • Using information from meters and consulting with subject matter experts, determine where energy is being used, analyze and compare demand-side to supply-side data, identify gaps between what is used and what is billed, and recommend procedures and projects to remove gaps and reduce energy use to reduce costs.
  • Consult with cross departmental senior leaders to review, recommend, and assist with projects and strategic long-term energy management plans and goals.
  • Consult with external utility vendors to negotiate contracts and rates.
  • Understand division processes and department relationships and work with all levels of employees, including senior management, and make recommendations to serve the energy management needs of the entire department. Be involved with educating and training management, personnel, and facility occupants as appropriate on energy guidelines, usage procedures, and energy management best practices.
  • Obtain and maintain information regarding applicable legislation, ordinances, and certifications with are or may be required. Communicate with legal representatives as needed and provide management with information and recommendations to ensure compliance.
  • Responsible for working with sustainable operations leadership to ensure that all team members are up to date on industry best practices and changes.

Requirements - Essential

  • University degree (Science, engineering, math, or related fields)
  • Minimum 2 plus years' experience in the sustainable operations, engineering of commercial buildings, building science, or related field
  • Basic technical understanding of common HVAC, electrical, mechanical,andbuilding automation systemsand their impact on sustainability goals
  • Basic understanding ofenergy conservation measuresand sustainability initiatives in commercial real estate
