Job Summary

The Montefiore Associate Administrative Nurse Manager maintains standards of the practice for nursing as defined by the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics, Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice and Nursing's Social Policy Statement.
Responsible for the day to day operations of a specialized nursing unit(s) in collaboration with the DPH directs and coordinates patient and unit activities in an environment that supports excellence, ensuring the continual delivery of quality patient care, in compliance with MMC policies and standards. Assists the interdisciplinary team to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care of select group of patients; participates in educational activities related to the clinical specialty; participates in clinical research studies. Essential Functions
  • Demonstrates professional growth and accountability for own practice and facilitates the professional growth and development of assigned associates.

    * In collaboration with DPH, creates a culture and participation in the development, implementation and evaluation of performance improvement initiatives.
    * Creates and fosters an environment conducive to integration of ideas from team members to improve practices and delivery of care.
    * Makes changes based on research outcomes and established practices of nursing care.
  • Defines and implements a patient care delivery system that assures effective outcomes.
    * Collaborates, develops, consults, plans care delivery to the age-specific needs of the patient population.
    * Assess and evaluate patient needs and responses to the care rendered by the health care team.
    * Responsible for the overall quality of patient care, ensuring compliance with internal and external regulatory standards.
    * Serves as role model and directs the delivery of quality nursing care appropriate to the age of the patient served by providing guidance and support to interdisciplinary health care providers.
    * Assists MMC associates in identifying learning needs and planning learning activities to meet those needs.
    * Participates in the planning and evaluation of the overall program in response to health care needs, health care trends, clinical personnel's learning needs, organizational needs and goals and needs of the care center.
    * Designs educational offerings and learning experiences using the principles of education and adult learning in all educational activities.
    * Develops, implements and evaluates standards of care and professional practice in collaboration with members of the health care team in accordance with institutional policies and regulatory agency requirements.
    * Develops and maintains systems which support efficient and effective functioning of designated clinical care area.
    * Responsible for the overall quality of patient care including developing, implementing and evaluating ongoing quality improvement activities to ensure compliance with internal and external regulatory standards.
    * Identifies, responds to and investigates potential and actual risk management issues.
    * Manages human resources inclusive of recruitment, hiring, evaluation, retention, progressive discipline and termination.
    * Interprets and communicates hospital policies and procedures to members of the health care team.
    * Utilizes analytical skills in problem solving and clinical decision making.
    * Assesses opportunities to enhance positive outcomes for patients and their families.
    * Intervenes appropriately in the management of patient care.
    * Escalates problems to the DPH/appropriate other person.
  • Demonstrates responsibility for all administrative issues within the School Health Program.
    * Identifies actual and potential high risk situations and quality issues with appropriate interventions as needed including resolution and referral.
    * Participates in the development of interdisciplinary Service Agreements:
    * Serves as resource and interprets the policies and procedures in:
    * Administrative Policy and Procedure Manual.
    * Nursing Administrative Manual.
    * Human Resources Manual.
    * Patient Care Manual.
    * Fire and Disaster Manual.
    * Infection Control Manual.
    * Job Description Manual.
    * 1199 Collective Bargaining Agreements.
    * NYS/NYC DOH Guidelines.
    * School Health Policy and Procedures.
    * Identifies and intervenes appropriately in various administrative issues including:
    * Coordination of admissions and transfers.
    * Consents, patient elopements, leaving against medical advice.
    * Police intervention via security.
    * Patient and family complaints.
    * Ancillary department issues - CT Scan, MRI, specimen, transportation, X-Ray, and reporting delays, and Infection Control.
    * Patient emergencies, cardiac arrest, security code, fire and disaster, and street calls.
    * Conducts site-based Infection Control rounds and TJC audits to ensure School Health is in compliance.
    * Coordinates and oversees on boarding of new Nursing staff in accordance with policy and procedure.
    * Coordination of nursing care services for patients with a DOE Medication Administration Form.
    * Vaccine Management within School Health.
    * Patient Supplied Medication Management within School Health.
    * Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to direct, coordinate and evaluate patient care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
    * Directs, coordinates and evaluates patient care based on assessment of data that includes: age of the patient, sensory deficits, psychomotor deficits, maturational age, biopsychosocial, spiritual, and physiological needs; patient and family response.
  • Facilitates and promotes the delivery of Patient/Family Centered Care to a divergent customer population.

    * Generates proposals to support new programs.
    * Consults on the procurement of quality equipment through authorized rental or borrowing in a cost-effective manner.

  • 1-3 years Clinical experience 2+ years, in related area Required
