Job Description

Job Summary:The Property Field General Adjuster is an experienced property claims expert responsible for handling large and complex losses. This role requires advanced technical skills, high-level investigation and communication abilities, and the capacity to manage all aspects of claims, including directing vendors and experts. The General Adjuster will travel to large / complex loss locations for on-site inspections with minimal notice and ensure accurate and efficient claims processing.

Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities:

  • Claims Handling:Manage the full life cycle of property claims, including field inspections, and handle large and complex losses.
  • Policy Interpretation:Interpret and understand complex policies, correctly apply coverages to the facts of the loss, and articulate the same to policyholders, their representatives, agents, brokers, and leadership.
  • Investigation and Communication:Conduct high-level investigations, communicate effectively with all parties involved, and present coverage rationale and damage adjustments.
  • Business Interruption and Income Loss:Demonstrate an understanding of Business Interruption and Business Income Loss coverages and their relationship to one another.
  • Technical Expertise:Recognize damage, determine the cause of damage and scope, and translate findings into workable estimates.
  • Vendor and Expert Management:Direct vendors and experts involved in the claims process.
  • Travel:Travel to large loss locations for on-site inspections with minimal notice.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Operates Under Minimal Supervision: within a specified territory, including contacting applicable parties, obtaining statements, explaining the claim process, reviewing coverage, investigating, and identifying special investigation unit (fraudulent) indicators.
  • Field Investigations:Conduct full field investigations and as deemed to be in the best interest of both the client and company.
  • Estimate Preparation:Communicate, explain, and prepare estimates with detailed diagrams and reports.
  • Negotiation:Negotiate with insureds, contractors, and vendors.
  • Salvage/Subrogation:Assess salvage/subrogation potential and monitor to conclusion.
  • Risk Evaluations:Complete risk evaluations for both underwriting and claims.
  • Compliance:Conclude claims in compliance with all state rules and regulations.
  • Catastrophe (CAT) Events:May assist / respond with claims handling team(s) in catastrophe (CAT) events, which may include extended travel/overnight stays.
  • Continuing Education:Maintain continuing education (CE) courses for required state licensing.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in property claims handling, particularly with large and complex commercial losses likely with an incurred of $500,000 or greater and or commercial loss complexities such as Livestock, Grain, Growers, Time Element and Winery Fermentation losses etc.
  • Strong technical skills and the ability to recognize and assess damage accurately.
  • Excellent investigation and communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex policy coverages.
  • Experience in managing vendors and experts.
  • Willingness to travel for on-site inspections with minimal notice.
  • Commitment to maintaining continuing education and state licensing requirements.

Credentials:

* Bachelor's degree

* Ten or more years of experience in property insurance, construction and or related field.

* State insurance adjusting license(s) and/or ability to obtain one.

* Commercial Property Estimating including Farm and Ranch Claims Handling Expertise.

* Field Adjusting and Estimating Knowledge.

* Insurance designations such as Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Claims (AIC) or Senior Claim Law Associate (SCLA).

SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

* The position involves considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions for periods of time.

* A person in this position is expected to make independent decisions in accordance with the company's policies and procedures.
