Position Summary:
The Club Ice Hockey Assistant Coach will support the Head Coach in developing and executing team strategies, training programs, and game plans. This role involves working closely with players to improve their skills, fostering a positive team environment, and assisting in the day-to-day operations of the team. Candidate to have a strong background in ice hockey, excellent leadership skills, and a passion for coaching. NJIT Club Ice Hockey competes in the Metropolitan Collegiate Hockey Conference.
Essential Functions:
1. Assist with Coaching Duties:
-Collaborate with the Head Coach to develop and implement game strategies and practice plans.
-Conduct on-ice and off-ice training sessions, focusing on skill development, conditioning, and game tactics.
-Analyze player performance and provide constructive feedback to help players improve their skills and understanding of the game.
2. Game Preparation:
-Help with pre-game preparations, including setting up drills, reviewing game footage, and strategizing with the Head Coach.
-Assist in game-day activities such as managing player lines, conducting warm-ups, and providing in-game adjustments and support.
3. Player Development:
-Work individually with players to address specific areas for improvement and develop personalized training plans.
-Foster a positive and motivating environment that encourages players to reach their full potential.
-Support players in understanding and executing team strategies during practices and games.
4. Team Management:
-Assist in maintaining team discipline, ensuring adherence to team rules and policies.
- Help organize and coordinate team events, meetings, and other activities.
-Contribute to a positive team culture and promote sportsmanship and teamwork.
5. Attendance:
-Required to attend all games and practices unless prior approval given by Head Coach.
-Required to attend all bus trips unless prior approval given by Head Coach.
Prerequisite Qualifications:
-Experience: Previous experience as a hockey player or coach, with a thorough understanding of ice hockey strategies, rules, and techniques. Coaching certifications and/or relevant coaching experience preferred.
-Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to motivate and inspire players, both on and off the ice.
-Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of ice hockey tactics, player development, and game analysis.
-Education: Relevant certification with USA Hockey.
-Physical Requirements: Ability to participate in on-ice coaching and maintain physical fitness suitable for the demands of the role.
-At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
Salary Information:
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the rate for this position is $5,000.00. (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
