Primary Purpose:

The Legal Assistant will handle the daily duties of the Legal Department as follows:

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Support Asst. General Counsel and other members of the Legal Department with legal work, communications, and filings, as assigned;
  • Assist the Legal Department with incoming legal process, including served documents, and routing them to the correct place. Assist with developing a response, as appropriate.
  • Act as liaison with outside counsel regarding the assignment of legal matters.
  • Assist with discovery in cases in which the bank is a party.
  • Research information to respond to queries to the Legal Department. An ideal candidate will have the skills to work independently, take on research tasks, and answer policy and procedures questions that arise, including potentially from lines of business or branches.
  • The ideal candidate will have the ability to assist with and potentially manage notifications to, and communications with insurers regarding bank-involved cases.
  • Other projects as assigned.


Job Specifications:



  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Paralegal experience preferred; on-going training for paralegal certificate will be considered, if in conjunction with 2 or more years experience working with legal documents/legal process.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in a law firm, in-house legal department, or with legal documents in another environment.
  • Experience and comfort with technology and learning new systems is necessary.
  • Able to meet time deadlines and work independently under pressure.
  • Detail-oriented and able to follow policies, procedures, and instructions.
  • The ideal candidate will have an inquisitive mind and be willing to take on and learn new things. We are looking for someone who demonstrates the ability to grow with the job and we expect they will take on more complex tasks over time.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Works cooperatively with others.
