Job Summary

The Senior Soldering Technician (SMT/Rework) is responsible for performing precision soldering, inspection, and rework of surface mount components on printed circuit boards (PCBs). This role requires expertise in identifying and correcting solder defects, operating rework and inspection equipment, and ensuring compliance with IPC standards. The ideal candidate is highly skilled in fine-pitch soldering, possesses strong attention to detail, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced, quality-driven environment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform SMT soldering, rework, and touch-up on electronic assemblies using microscopes and precision tools
  • Verify component placement and orientation, and perform post reflow inspections
  • Identify and correct solder defects such as poor wetting, solder voids, bridges, misaligned components, tombstoned parts, and other surface mount issues
  • Operate Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) equipment to detect solder defects and distinguish between false and valid defect calls
  • Use rework equipment such as hot air pencils, hot plates, and BGA removal tools (e.g., ERSA or similar OEMs)
  • Review and inspect solder joints using X-ray equipment to identify defects in bottom-terminated components
  • Perform jumper wire soldering and tacking on redesign boards as needed
  • Follow detailed work instructions and industry standards (IPC-A-610, J-STD-001) to ensure high-quality workmanship
  • Maintain focus and accuracy during prolonged periods of detailed work under a microscope
  • Work collaboratively with production and quality teams to ensure products meet specifications and deadlines


Job Requirements

  • Advanced soldering experience with surface mount components and rework operations
  • Proficiency in using microscopes, AOI, and X-ray inspection equipment
  • Hands-on experience with rework tools such as hot air pencils, hot plates, and BGA removal systems
  • Ability to identify and correct various SMT soldering defects
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to perform repetitive, high-precision tasks
  • IPC-A-610 Certification (active or expired required)
  • IPC J-STD-001 Certification (active or expired required)
  • Ability to read and interpret assembly instructions, schematics, and component layouts
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and perform overtime as needed
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods and handle fine, detailed work


Additional Job Details

  • Work location: Oldsmar, FL
  • Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 5:00 AM - 3:30 PM (1st shift)
  • Overtime available on weekends
  • Candidates must be able to reliably commute to the worksite or plan to relocate before starting
