Purpose of Position
Manage and coordinate the operations and activities related to health-related degree programs within the Texas Health Education Service (TXHES), specifically the Joint Admission Medical Program (JAMP). Coordinate the application and admission process, facilitating curriculum development and updates, coordinating class schedules and course offerings, and ensure the smooth progression of students through their health-related programs. Collaborate with faculty members, administrators, and students to provide guidance and support, address any issues and concerns, and ensure that program requirements are met.
The incumbent is also responsible for advancing the JAMP program through statewide strategies that promote scholar persistence, academic success, and transition to medical school. This role manages scholar caseloads, develops data-informed support services, implements early-alert interventions, and contributes to the practice of scholarship in student support methodologies, retention practices, and curriculum design. The position also supports recruitment and outreach efforts in coordination with the Director, who spearheads statewide initiatives.
Essential Functions
- Student Admission Process: Define and formalize student admission criteria and direct the processing of medical school applications for the Texas Health Education Services (TXHES) to assess if they comply with admission standards as well as ensure that all queries are answered in a timely manner to ensure a highly rigorous, transparent, and seamless admissions process.
- Design Curriculum: Develop, design, and improve the curriculum, select content, assess the program, and reflect primarily in higher secondary or tertiary education.
- Administration: Produce, update, and provide best practice support on complex Microsoft documents, databases, and other departmental systems, advising colleagues as needed and using expertise to help improve processes.
- Budgeting: Track budgets and report variances to more senior colleagues within department.
- Leadership and Direction: Explain the action plan, to support team members in their understanding of what needs to be done, and how this relates to the department's plan and the UT System's strategy, mission, and vision; motivate people to achieve goals.
- Work Scheduling and Allocation: Assign short-term work schedules to a team of subordinates in order to achieve expectations while following established timelines.
- Information and Business Advice: Resolve queries from internal or external stakeholders by providing information on complex processes and the related policies, referring issues to others where necessary for interpretation of policy.
- Resolve Escalated Issues: Act as a technical reference and escalation point for a team, resolving somewhat complex and unforeseen issues and providing advice and guidance on process and procedure, to support others in delivering their duties.
- Educational Program Evaluation: Handle a process of evaluating the effectiveness of educational services
- Quality Assurance: Plan and coordinate testing and inspection of products and processes. Implement corrective actions or continuous improvement initiatives and monitor them to make sure they are effective.
- Regulatory and Compliance Management: Investigate standard incidents using current regulatory and compliance processes, systems, and procedures, and take action to solve immediate compliance issues. Advise more senior colleagues on more complex problems.
- Organizational Capability Building: Provide coaching to team members to develop their skills.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Experience supporting first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented students. Demonstrated ability to implement and evaluate early-alert systems and data-informed student support strategies.
- Knowledge of student development theory, retention strategies, and transition-to-graduate/professional school practices.
- Experience engaging in the practice of scholarship, particularly in student support strategies, program persistence, retention, and curriculum design.
- Commitment to culturally responsive, trauma-informed support practices.
Required Competencies

Required Qualifications
- Master's Degree and 2 years of experience, OR
- Bachelor's Degree and 4 years of experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in higher education, counseling, student affairs, or a related field.
- 5 years of progressively responsible experience in student success, academic advising, case management, or related higher education roles.

Additional Information
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to a minimum of 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. Participation in TRS is mandatory. A background check will be conducted on candidates under final consideration. The background check may include any or all of the following: criminal history check, prior employment verification, education verification, professional references check, and motor vehicle records check. Background checks are conducted by third-party vendors. Upon request form the third-party vendor, candidates under final consideration must provide the required information for the background checks to be completed.
