Responsibilities

Orrick is seeking a driven and detail-oriented Science Advisor to join our sophisticated and cutting-edge Patent Litigation Life Sciences team.

In this role, you will work closely with our experienced attorneys, providing strategic support on complex & high-impact matters involving a broad range of clients across a diverse range of private and public biopharma, and healthcare companies.

Our U.S. Intellectual Property team is primarily based in our Southern California, Bay Area, and East Coast offices; however, we are open to considering across the U.S. including fully remote positions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with attorneys to develop and execute technical strategy in patent-related matters involving antibody therapeutics, cell and gene therapy platforms, and molecular biology innovations.
  • Analyze patents, prior art, prosecution histories, and technical documentation in support of infringement and invalidity arguments.
  • Translate complex scientific concepts into clear, legally relevant insights for cross-functional litigation teams.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in molecular biology, immunology, biochemistry, bioengineering, or a closely related field.
  • 3 or more years of experience in supporting or participating in life sciences patent litigation.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and project management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, while maintaining professionalism with clients and colleagues.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently, demonstrating strong organizational and time management skills.
  • USPTO Membership is encouraged.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with patent litigation processes
  • Prior work involving sequence alignments, CDR mapping, or therapeutic protein structure-function analysis.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing expert reports or working with KOLs/scientific consultants.

Compensation and Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is $85,000-$155,000, plus bonus, although the salary offered will depend upon an applicant's qualifications and experience, and whether the applicant will work remotely. We are also open to part-time, hourly arrangements for otherwise qualified candidates.

Orrick is committed to providing a comprehensive, competitive, and thoughtful total compensation package to our attorneys and staff, wherever they work. This compensation and benefits information is based on the Orrick's estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include, but not limited to, qualifications, relevant experience or education, particular skills or expertise, geography. Other compensation may include an annual discretionary merit bonus, which would be determined by Firm and individual performance.
