Job Summary

This position will involve materials procurement in support of Regulated and Renewable Energy, Transmission, and Customer Delivery business units.

Procurement Specialist is the intermediate level of the Procurement classification hierarchy.

Employees will manage the procurement of goods that align with Supply Chain requirements and Business Unit specifications, ensuring most advantageous pricing and terms while meeting customer's require dates. Employees at this level solve more complex problems with general direction from Management. Incumbents are expected to have advanced skills and the ability to work with greater independence. They effectively apply fundamental concepts and procedures to work that are fairly complex and varied.

Responsibilities
  • Provides advanced procurement services such as but not limited to pricing and quantity validation, inventory and material transfers, request for quotes, resolution of terms and conditions, issuance and management of purchase orders and/or purchase contracts, expediting, logistics, invoice resolution, etc.

  • Promotes advanced procurement and generation of sustainable cost savings and inventory reduction savings.

  • Provides advanced guidance to the business unit on procurement process, best sourcing options, materials management strategies including transfers, cost controls, and avoidance of procurement issues.

  • Develops and improves supplier relationships and ensures compliance with supplier agreements to help realize value added services benefits. Understands supplier capabilities, establishes relationships with suppliers and negotiates cost savings and inventory reductions. Acts as liaison between external suppliers and the Business Unit.

  • Demonstrates a strong sense of Business Unit and Supplier focus and cultivates Business Unit and Supplier relationships.

  • Ensures compliance with all related federal and state laws and regulations and Duke Energy business standards.

  • Demonstrates advanced capabilities associated with analyzing and evaluating supplier performance.

  • Manages daily, monthly, and quarterly reports.

  • Actively supports our safety culture.

  • Fully embraces operational excellence, being proactive and aspirational for continuous improvement opportunities.

  • Supports after hours emergent duty phone as assigned within the schedule rotation (includes after hours and weekend support).

Required/Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree + 2 years related work experience OR

  • Associates degree + 4 years related work experience OR

  • HS/GED + 6 years related work experience

Desired Qualifications
  • Microsoft Office Suite

  • Maximo experience

  • Supply Chain related work experience

  • Advanced analytical, problem solving, business acumen & customer service skills

  • Demonstrates a strong sense of urgency and proven desire to learn

  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Strong multitasking skills and ability to manage a robust workload

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Demonstrate advanced planning, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Working Conditions
  • Hybrid Mobility Classification - Work will be performed from both onsite and remote locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy Regional Headquarters

  • Work location may be Charlotte, NC, Raleigh, NC, Saint Petersburg, FL, or Plainfield, IN

  • Will be expected to report to a Duke Energy facility when required and directed by their manager.

  • This position will include after hours and weekend support.

  • May be occasionally around construction/maintenance activities.

  • May require travel to other internal business locations/facilities.

  • May require some travel to vendor locations.
