The Stroke and Trauma Clinical Program Manager is accountable for the overall management, leadership and direction of the clinical and operational activities of the Stroke and Trauma Program at Swedish Edmonds in accordance with Swedish Edmonds mission, vision, and values to includes creating an environment that fosters a multidisciplinary team and collaborative approach to care that achieves operational and clinical "Best Practice". The Clinical Program Manager works closely with department managers, directors, and physicians and oversees the daily operations of the Stroke and Trauma Programs.



  • Works to provide strategic leadership and management in the areas of stroke and trauma care, staff education planning, performance and quality improvement in accordance with national standards of care, organization policies, best practice, and clinical practice guidelines.
  • Works in collaboration with the Director of Stroke Services and the Director of Critical Care to implement and manage the stroke and trauma program according to DNV and DOH standards.
  • Performs annual performance evaluations, and career development plans for all team members under their span of authority. Responsible for maintaining proper, and approved staffing levels necessary to achieve stroke and trauma program objectives.
  • Establishes and maintains written guidelines (standards of care, policies, procedures, and protocols) consistent with Washington State laws, DNV, DOH, OSHA, and professional organizations relating to emergency, trauma, and stroke services, including roles, responsibilities of the medical staff, nursing, and ancillary team members, facilities and equipment usage; divert, admit, consult, refer, and transfer of trauma and stroke patients, registry activities, quality assurance reports, and systems review.
  • Regulatory compliance: Responsible for managing, organizing and leading the stroke and trauma accreditation process. Prepares, collects and analyzes data required for stroke and trauma programs designation process and on-site reviews. Responsible for identifying potential areas of non-compliance with DNV and DOH certification and level guidelines and building prompt remediation plans to achieve full compliance.
  • Develops ongoing strategies to assess processes and outcomes of patient care, and to identify opportunities for improvement. Takes independent leadership role on completing PDSA and RCA cycles for systems issues as warranted. Participates and assists in facilitating ongoing quality improvement initiatives intended to improve clinical outcomes and support the patient throughout the continuum of care, incorporating current knowledge and best practice into care that achieves high clinical and functional outcomes, is cost effective, and enables staff to provide high quality stroke and trauma care.
  • Oversees projects from the planning stage through implementation, test of change, and reporting outcomes, with a focus on improving overall efficiency of the caregivers that deliver healthcare service to our stroke and trauma patient population. The Clinical Program Manager will take a leadership role in clinical quality improvement efforts to include collaborative roles in completing system analysis and PDSA/RCA cycles to assure optimal care for stroke and trauma patients. Works with the Medical Director to redesign stroke and trauma care processes to improve efficiency. Develops and presents quality improvement activities to organizational and regional quality committees.
  • Monitors use of hospital resources for trauma and stroke care toward quality parameters and improved outcomes. Monitors adherence to standard stroke and trauma orders, nursing care plans, protocols, and required documentation.
  • Maintains active liaison with the community, regional and state committees, Emergency Committees, Stroke Care Committees, and professional organizations. Works collaboratively with other Providence Swedish Health systems stroke and trauma programs.
  • Participates in the planning and implementation of continuing stroke and trauma education programs for medical, nursing, and ancillary staff. Participates in the collaboration with directors, managers, researchers, and stroke and trauma program staff to identify, plan, and implement processes and programs for periodic validation of specific competencies for staff.
  • Facilitates an effective on-going interdisciplinary approach for the stroke and trauma program, including designing and leading the stroke and trauma interdisciplinary committee meetings.
  • Oversees management and maintenance of stroke and trauma registry data and ensures reporting of trauma data to the Washington State Department of Trauma Services.
  • Responsible for close communication, collaboration and communicates effectively with program interdisciplinary team members and leaders to drive thorough and sustainable integration of care.
  • Acts as a liaison for and participates in research projects.
  • Is a patient advocate. Works collaboratively with patients and families across the continuum of care, providing support, and resources to meet their needs.
  • Provides community outreach and program updates to local partner hospitals, EMS, and other community agencies. Provides educational information to patients, families, allied professionals and the general public.
  • Contributes to a positive work climate and the overall team effort.
  • Enhances professional growth development of self through educational programs and in-service meetings.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree - Nursing degree (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Coursework/Training - Completion of a WA DOH trauma program manager orientation course within the first 18 months of hire.
  • Coursework/Training - Requirement of eight (8) hours of initial onboarding and annual stroke specific education.
  • Coursework/Training - Requirement of thirty-six (36) hours of trauma-related education every three years.
  • Washington Registered Nurse License upon hire.
  • National Provider BLS - American Heart Association upon hire.
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale Certificate - NIH Stroke Scale Training Course within 90 days of hire.
  • Provider ACLS - American Heart Association upon hire.
  • Provider PALS - American Heart Association upon hire.
  • TNCC - Trauma Nursing Core Course within 6 months of hire.
  • 5 years - Nursing experience.
  • 2 years - Emergency Department experience.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Master's Degree.
  • 1 year - Project management experience.
