Zayo is seeking Damage Prevention Technicians (Levels 1-3) to join our Damage Prevention team across multiple U.S. locations. Location: Our ideal candidates will reside within an hour commute of a major metro area in one of the states listed below: Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington Responsibilities:
- Analyzing blueprints to determine where construction projects will take place.
- Documenting interactions, site information and utilities in organizational software.
- Communicating with clients, engineers and management.
- Using a variety of techniques (electrical, magnetic, GPS, blueprint analysis, and/or radar) to mark Zayo's facility.
- Proactively identifying potential problem areas in order to ensure the integrity of the network and company.
- Pinpointing the coordinates of lines using GPS or surveying equipment.
- Oversight of the asset management process and replenishment of on-site/truck materials.
- Maintaining tools, test sets, and all network equipment.
- Acting as subject matter expert on technology, process, and company infrastructure.
- Provide training to other employees, as needed.
- Participating in forums or cross-functional team settings to contribute to the development of process or policy.
- Maintaining network/site security, cleanliness, and follow all policies related to company property.
- Engaging, monitoring, and evaluating the performance of vendor/contractors completing work on behalf of the company.
- Operating in both individual and team environments, both within this team and interacting with other teams, working together to achieve common goals.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Damage Prevention Tech I: Must have a minimum of 6 mos locating experience.
- Damage Prevention Tech II: Must have a minimum of 2 yrs experience locating a mix of fiber and other underground utilities.
- Damage Prevention Tech III: Must have a minimum of 5 yrs experience locating a mix of fiber and other underground utilities, and operate with a greater degree of independence.
- High school diploma or equivalent, required.
- Previous experience in site development, underground installations, utility locating, fiber optic cable builds, preferred.
- Proficiency using computer, smart phones, test equipment, Microsoft Windows operating system, and Office applications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Operate on-call 24/7/365 on a rotating schedule, including standby, call out, dispatch, and overtime, as required by the business, including some travel, as needed.
- Must follow all personal safety policies and procedures.
- Must be able to maintain eligibility to operate a company issued vehicle per our policy (no more than 2 moving violations within the past 3 years); this includes possession of a state-issued driver's license for the state in which you live.
- Must have a smart phone.
- Regularly lift objects weighing up to 75 pounds and move them clear of the job site.
