Education & Experience


  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience/training preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years in materials management, operating room support, purchasing, or accounting.


Position Summary

The PERIOP Implant Coordinator establishes and maintains acceptable inventory levels of owned and consigned implants, and arranges for loaner implants and instruments to support surgical patient care. This role ensures accurate billing and documentation, supports vendor payment processes, and coordinates with surgeons, clinical service coordinators, and patient care managers to anticipate implant needs based on surgical schedules.

The Implant Coordinator is responsible for on-call coverage (rotational), oversees compliance with departmental practices, and ensures adherence to University policy regarding product introduction and approvals. This position requires collaborative work with multidisciplinary teams while maintaining a patient-centered approach.

Key Responsibilities


  • Inventory & Procurement

    • Manage acquisition, storage, sterilization, and distribution of owned, consigned, and loaner implants.
    • Monitor inventory levels and replenish stock through PMM inventory manager.
    • Conduct cycle counts, reconcile discrepancies, and support product recalls.


  • Surgical Support

    • Review surgical schedules to anticipate implant and instrument needs.
    • Coordinate with Clinical Service Coordinators and vendors to secure implants.
    • Ensure proper receipt, usage tracking, documentation, and billing for implants and loaned instruments.


  • Billing & Documentation

    • Match implant usage with patient charge forms and inventory issues to confirm billing.
    • Follow departmental "bill only" practices for vendor payment.
    • Maintain compliance with Joint Commission requirements for tissue procurement and documentation.


  • Collaboration & Communication

    • Partner with Patient Care Managers, Clinical Service Coordinators, vendors, and POD managers.
    • Support Materiel Services and OR Management in product recall programs.
    • Acquire and maintain a working knowledge of commonly purchased implant products.




Scope & Expectations


  • Independently manages a full range of procurement and coordination responsibilities.
  • Works on complex assignments requiring review of surgical schedules and surgeon requests.
  • Authorized to make purchase requisitions within established limits.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment in selecting procurement methods, including tissue acquisitions.
  • Operates with minimal supervision, receiving general direction for complex or unique assignments.
