Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Post Doctoral Associate for the department of Medicine at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join an interdisciplinary team working on the development of digital twin models for critically ill patients in the intensive care unit (
ICU). This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a cutting-edge project at the intersection of computational modeling, data science, and clinical medicine. The successful candidate will work closely with clinicians, intensivists, and computational scientists to develop patient-specific, predictive models using real-world clinical data. The project aims to enhance understanding of disease trajectories, optimize treatment strategies, and support real-time clinical decision-making.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Develop and refine computational models (e.g., mechanistic, machine learning, or hybrid approaches) for ICU patients.
- Integrate and analyze high-dimensional clinical datasets, including time-series physiological and laboratory data.
- Collaborate with ICU physicians and clinical partners to ensure physiological relevance and clinical applicability.
- Contribute to manuscript preparation, grant writing, and dissemination of findings at scientific meetings.
- Work collaboratively and independently with laboratories and researchers within Rutgers.
- Attend and actively participate in both weekly and monthly group research meetings and discussions.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Ph.D. in biomedical engineering, computer science, applied mathematics, systems biology, or a related field. Strong background in computational modeling, data science, or machine learning.
- Candidates in ABD (all but degree) status will also be considered.
- Experience with electronic health records, physiological signal processing, or predictive analytics in healthcare.

- Demonstrated experience working with large datasets, preferably in healthcare or life sciences.
- Excellent programming skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB, R).
- Must pass employee health clearance, TB Test, and required safety training.

- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Familiarity with critical care physiology and clinical workflows in the ICU is desirable but not required.
