Electric Motor Torque Security Calibration Engineer

Develop, test, and validate vehicle-based calibrations that achieve world-class torque security performance for hybrid and fully electric propulsion systems. Establish motor control technical best practices and report generation to communicate and guide technical strategies to immediate and/or surrounding engineering teams. Plan, generate, and verify feature calibrations for environmental and driver use case scenarios in accordance with powertrain system functional objectives. Manipulate and utilize large and complex sets of propulsion system (e-motor, engine, energy storage system) data to analyze and solve complex system problems associated with functional safety and motor performance. Support system integration goals that achieve engine performance, fuel consumption, emissions, OBD, and base engine calibration development targets. Work cross functionally with motor, hybrid controller, engine development, powertrain controls and vehicle teams to identify and implement calibration solutions that meet or exceed program requirements. Position requires up to 20% domestic travel.

Position Requirements: REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree (or foreign academic equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or related and 3 years of experience in job offered or a related position in the development and calibration automotive engines. Experience must include developing and calibrating electric motors; experience in data acquisition, including collecting and processing data; working with electric motor analysis and calibration tools, emissions development, and electric motor technologies; developing emissions and On-Board Diagnostics, powertrain systems development, and controls systems development; knowledge of calibration process using design of experiments and optimization techniques; working with Matlab or Simulink.

Basic Qualifications:



  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science. Other Engineering disciplines may be considered.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in engine development, powertrain systems development /engine calibration /control systems development / diagnostics within the automotive industry.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of internal combustion engines and powertrain calibration.
  • Proficiency with calibration tools such as INCA and CDA, X-plot
  • Ability to interface with software and read Simulink models via MATLAB tools.
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to triage and work with complex datasets.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working independently and following up with stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative mindset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical content to upper management using tools like PowerPoint.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering, Computer Science from an accredited university
  • 5+ years of experience in engine development, powertrain systems development /engine calibration /control systems development / diagnostics within the automotive industry Calibration process knowledge using design of experiments and advanced optimization techniques
  • Functional Safety standard knowledge with ISO26262 training.
  • Proficient in advanced simulation tools
  • Proficient in Matlab / Simulink
