Position Summary:
Responsible for providing locksmith services throughout the Medical Center to include the installation, repair and/or replacement of locking devices. Assists in the maintenance of departmental records including the key records.
Job Responsibilities:
- Prioritizes, completes and communicates assigned work. Work assignments are prioritized chronologically unless otherwise indicated or requested. Communicates, in a timely fashion, any delays in work projects to the appropriate department. Demonstrates problem solving skills by actively seeking solutions and when necessary, referring the problem to the Locksmith Foreperson or Senior Security Manager. Obtains the necessary information to accurately complete the job. Seeks additional assignments upon completion of assigned work.
- Key cutting and the installation, repairs, replacement, and maintenance of locking devices. Uses only approved key blanks purchased from authorized vendors. Utilizes equipment for key cuts in a safe manner in accordance with the manufacturers operating guidelines. Performs inspection and preventative maintenance of locking devices throughout the Medical Center. Informs the Security Department if locking devices are being compromised or deliberately broken.
- Maintains shop equipment and utilizes supplies effectively and efficiently. Uses only approved equipment purchased from authorized vendors. Ensures the equipment is kept clean and in good working order. Ensures that supplies and equipment are efficiently utilized. Ensures that all orders placed for equipment and supplies are complete prior to accepting and signing for the material received.
- Maintains inventory and work order records. Maintains accurate inventory of supplies and equipment. Maintains accurate records for supplies and equipment to include price quotes, order/receive dates. Maintains an accurate and current vendor list. Maintains accurate records pertaining to the key identification numbers. All paperwork for completed work orders are submitted to the Security Department on a daily basis.
- Identification of potential or actual safety hazards. Identifies potential or actual safety hazards in the work area. Communicates the identified hazard to the appropriate person/department. Ensures that the work area, to the extent possible, is free from safety hazards. Uses appropriate measures to minimize safety hazards for others and self in the work area.
- Communicates effectively with all departments and the Medical Center community. Provides instruction to the requesting departments staff members on the proper use and maintenance of locking devices. Provides technical recommendations to the Security Department regarding projects
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or the equivalent.
Minimum of three years locksmith experience in either a commercial or industrial environment.
Valid Nassau County of Consumer Affairs License.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Required Licenses: Crisis Prevent/Intervention-Ct, Security Guard Reg-NYS
Preferred Qualifications:
Some College. Current and valid NYS Drivers License. Basic computer skills including MS Office.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $64,410.15 - $64,410.15 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
