Job Description:

SCAN Group is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to tackling the most pressing issues facing older adults in the United States.

This position supports SCAN's diversified asset Healthcare in Action that serves patients experiencing homelessness through an innovative "street medicine" approach by contracting with Medicare and Medicaid health plans, hospitals and health systems as well as municipalities.

The Accounting Manager - Medical Group Operations is a hands-on, individual contributor responsible for the full range of accounting activities for the medical group, including journal entries, reconciliations, month-end close, financial reporting, and audit support. This role will also oversee grant accounting activities, ensuring compliance with funding requirements and accurate tracking of restricted and unrestricted funds. The Accounting Manager works closely with the corporate accounting team, including payroll, purchasing, and accounts payable, to ensure aligned and accurate financial operations across the organization.

**Must be local to Los Angeles and come into the corporate office at Long Beach 1x per week**

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform full-cycle accounting for the medical group, including journal entry creation, general ledger management, and monthly close.
  • Reconcile all relevant balance sheet accounts, including cash, receivables, accruals, intercompany, and restricted funds.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and reporting packages to support internal leadership and funders.
  • Collaborate with corporate accounting staff (e.g., payroll, purchasing, accounts payable) to ensure accuracy and completeness of shared financial transactions.
  • Maintain and monitor grant-related financial activity, including tracking expenditures, preparing funder reports, and ensuring proper allocation of costs.
  • Ensure compliance with grant requirements and restrictions, including documentation and audit readiness.
  • Support financial and grant-related audits by preparing workpapers, schedules, and responding to auditor inquiries.
  • Maintain detailed schedules for fixed assets, prepaids, accruals, and grant revenue recognition.
  • Partner with FP&A and operational teams to analyze variances and inform decision-making.
  • Help improve processes and controls that support scalable and compliant accounting operations.
  • Ensure financial operations are in compliance with GAAP and organizational policies.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA required.
  • 5+ years of hands-on accounting experience, preferably in healthcare or nonprofit environments.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, fund accounting, and month-end close processes.
  • Experience in grant accounting, including restricted/unrestricted funds and compliance reporting.
  • Proficient in Excel and accounting software (e.g., Oracle Fusion, QuickBooks).
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently while collaborating across departments.
