Position Overview
In response to award-winning faculty, facilities, and expanded degree programs valued by the business community, the KU School of Business has experienced rapid growth in undergraduate applications and admissions. To sustain this vitality, the school seeks an outstanding applicant to serve as Assistant Director of Undergraduate Recruitment. Duties include data-driven recruitment of prospective students to KU School of Business via on and off campus events, presentations, and various initiatives. Assistant Director will assist in the development, implementation, and management of a comprehensive recruitment strategy to support the School of Business strategic growth plans and enrollment goals. This position has specialized responsibility for working with area community colleges and high schools to build a pipeline for students seeking admission to the program. Travel, evening, and weekend work required.
This is a full-time, twelve-month, benefits-eligible, regular appointment reporting to the Director of Recruitment. This is a hybrid position based on the recruiting calendar. Alternative and flexible work schedules will be evaluated as per KU policy and School guidelines.

Job Description
40% - Student Recruitment and Event Coordination: Oversee, manage, and actively participate in on campus programs and events focused on recruiting students to the KU School of Business undergraduate program. Duties include but are not limited to:
- In collaboration with the Undergraduate Admissions Office and other colleagues across campus and within the School of Business, represent School of Business at on-campus recruitment functions such as Junior Days, Senior Days, Transfer Visit Days, Scholar Days, and prospective student visits.
- Communicate daily with prospective students, families, and high school and community college counselors via phone, email, and KU's undergraduate recruitment official communication platform.
- Provide presentations in a central public speaking role to small and large groups of prospective students, families, and community stakeholders; communicates the School of Business competitive advantage at on- and off- campus events.
- Assist Director of Recruitment with hiring, training, coaching, and evaluation of School of Business Ambassador Program.
- Assist Director of Recruitment with planning and execution of all on campus events including but not limited to Business Open House, Rock Chalk BizHawk Day, high school business competitions, etc.
30% - High School and Transfer Student Outreach: Responsible for working with area community colleges and high schools to build a pipeline for students seeking admission to the program. Sample of duties include:
- Plan, develop, execute, and analyze off-campus recruitment programs and events for prospective business students and their families.
- In collaboration with the Undergraduate Admissions Office and other colleagues across campus and within the School of Business, travel and represent School of Business at off-campus recruitment events, college fairs, community college visits, and high school visits.
- Connect with area community colleges, including but not limited to Johnson County Community College, Kansas City Kansas Community College, and Metropolitan Community College, to communicate transfer student pathways for academic programs in the School of Business.
- Develop relationships with area high school counselors and teachers to create pipelines for the School of Business with the goal of increasing school-specific visits to campus and Capitol Federal Hall.
- Monitor high school recruitment initiatives and develop accurate applicant and inquiry reports on a regular basis to determine recruitment program effectiveness.
- Attend appropriate and strategic off-campus high school visits and fairs.
- Assist in organizing specific visit programs for individual groups or high school programs. Coordinate select outreach programs on campus.
- Work with Director of Recruitment and other appropriate stakeholders on campus to develop and execute a high school case study competition.
20% - Development & Management: Provide expertise to enhance, implement, and develop successful recruitment and outreach efforts for the Business Leadership Program (BLP). Duties include but are not limited to:
- Contribute to the development of recruitment strategy, materials, resources, and analyzing data to recruit prospective students.
- Manage the recruitment of prospective students for the Business Leadership Program (BLP).
- Manage the application process for the Business Leadership Program (BLP) in coordination with Director of Recruitment.
- Monitor recruitment initiatives and develops accurate applicant and inquiry reports on a regular basis to determine recruitment program effectiveness.
- Complete other duties as assigned by Director of Recruitment and/or Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs.
10% - Support and other related duties:
- Serve as liaison or resource for other admissions representatives or Business School staff.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of recruitment programs, determine need for additional efforts, and provide recruitment data to Director of Recruitment.
- Assist in supervision of student ambassadors.
- Participate as an active team member of the School of Business staff including attending staff meetings and serving on School or University committees, as directed.
- Complete other recruitment program related duties as assigned, including processing of admissions applications for various populations (freshmen, transfers, current KU students, BBA program, etc.)
Position Requirements
- Valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and one year of relevant experience.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously based on application materials and interview process.
- Excellent public speaking and presentation skills, interpersonal and written communication skills based on application materials.
This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have advanced knowledge, analytical skills and professional competencies necessary to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is commonly recognized as the standard qualification for similar roles in the public and private sector, ensuring that the university remains competitive with industry aligned practices, enhances collaboration with external partners, and supports the delivery of services and programs that meet professional and market-driven expectations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or bachelor's degree plus three years of related experience.
- At least one year experience in event coordination, public relations, admissions, or recruiting, as demonstrated by application materials.
- Previous experience that required the ability to effectively communicate in a wide range of professional settings, as demonstrated by application materials.
- Previous experience that required to being a self-starter and taking initiative, as demonstrated by application materials.
- Experience in working effectively with multiple student populations, including transfer, low-income, first generation, geographic regions, high school, and non-traditional students, as evidenced by work history.
- Previous experience that required the ability to work both autonomously and as a member of a team, as evidenced by application materials.
- Experience or familiarity with the University of Kansas, as demonstrated by application materials.
