The City of Aspen is seeking to fill two seasonal Nordic Trails Groomer positions within our Parks and Open Space Department.

Job Title: Nordic Trails Groomer

Department: Parks and Open Space

Classification: Non-Exempt, Seasonal

Pay Range: $30.99/hour - $37.29/hour

Position Summary: Performs various work responsibilities in the grooming and maintenance of the Aspen Snowmass Nordic Trail System.

Supervision Exercised and Received: Position works under the general supervision of the Nordic Coordinator.

Essential Job Functions:

Nordic Trail Maintenance

* Assists in performing daily maintenance of Nordic trails and grooming equipment. Duties include safely operating a variety of medium and heavy machines including snowmobiles, snow cats, tractors, trucks and trailers, and other grooming equipment.

* Performs daily inspections of all equipment prior to use for fluid levels, tire pressure wear or other safety related factors.

* Update and maintain Nordic website with pertinent grooming information for trail users.

* Other duties may include shoveling snow, emptying and maintaining trash containers, picking up litter, repairing fences and trail signage.

* Fall setup and spring teardown of Nordic trail infrastructure.

* Responsible for maintaining a safe and efficient work environment. Position will adhere to all safety policies of the City of Aspen while performing all duties assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Experience: Two seasons Nordic trail maintenance or snow grooming preferred.

Technical Knowledge: Proficiency with Slack and Outlook.

Licenses & Certifications: Must possess a valid Colorado driver's license or be able to obtain one within 30 days of start date.

NOTE: Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required abilities, knowledge and skills as determined by the City of Aspen may be substituted for the requirements above.

NOTE: This position requires a drug test (Procom GWS) and physical examination (Grand River Health West) upon hire. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing both the drug test and physical examination.

NOTE: This position requires a Criminal Background Check upon hire. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a Criminal Background Check.

Position Type and Work Hours

The City of Aspen is seeking to fill two seasonal Nordic Trails Groomer positions within our Parks and Open Space Department.

Position I: Seasonal, 40-hour work week, 8:00am-4:00pm from November 1 to December 7, moving to evening shifts, 4:00pm-midnight from December 8 to March 31. Hours vary with workload and additional hours may be required.

* Special Events: May be required to work special events during holiday periods.

* On-Call: May be required to perform on-call duty as needed dependent on emergencies, weather conditions, department staffing needs, and workload.

* Evenings/Weekends: Evening meetings/grooming will be required in addition to or instead of normal hours. Weekends will be required in addition to or instead of normal hours during winter grooming and race schedules.

Position II: Seasonal, weekends only, Saturdays and Sundays, 6:00am-4:30pm from November 15 to March 31. Hours vary with workload, weather conditions, and operational needs.

* Special Events: May be required to work special events during holiday periods.

* Evenings/Weekends: Weekends will be required.

Work Environment:

* Outdoors: Work is performed outdoors with exposure to a variety of temperature and weather conditions. Tasks include snow removal using hand tools and may involve exposure to cold, heat, exhaust, fumes, and other environmental factors.

* Off-Site: Meetings, trainings, and site visits at a variety of city facilities and areas.

Essential Physical

* Visual Acuity: Ability to bring objects into focus.

* Balancing: Maintaining equilibrium.

* Bending: Bending or positioning oneself to move an object from one level to another.

* Cross Country Skiing: Routinely cross-country skis to inspect trails and skiing conditions. Ability to ski all levels of trail difficulties.

* Crouching: Bending body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.

* Climbing: Ascending or descending stationary objects.

* Equipment Operation: Nordic operations may include operation of snowmobiles, grooming equipment, trails maintenance machinery, signs, displays, boulders and rocks, trail warning signage

* Eye/Hand/Foot Coordination: Performing work through using two or more body parts or other devices.

* Gripping/Grasping: Ability to apply pressure with fingers and palm.

* Handling: Seizing, holding, grasping, through use of hands, fingers, or other means.

* Hearing: Perceiving and comprehending the nature and direction of sounds.

* Lifting & Carrying: Up to 50 lbs. unassisted, including shoveling snow, equipment, dirt, and hand tools such as shovels, bars, and chippers. Nordic operations may include the operation of snowmobiles, grooming equipment, trails maintenance machinery, signs, displays, boulders and rocks, trail warning signage.

* Kneeling: Bending legs at knees to come to rest on knee or knees.

* Pushing/Pulling: Ability to use upper extremities to exert force in order to press, draw, drag or haul objects in a sustained motion.

* Reaching: Extending the hands and arms or other device in any direction.

* Repetitive motions: Making frequent or continuous movements.

* Sitting: Remaining in a stationary position.

* Standing: Ability to sustain position for at least 1 hour.

* Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.

* Talking: Communicating ideas or exchanging information.

* Walking: Ability to move to traverse from one location to another.
