Job Description

Promega is a global leader in providing innovative solutions and technical support to life scientists in academic, industrial, and government settings. The intern will contribute to the development of High Value Enzymes for production and analytical assays in priority areas such as mRNA therapeutics, biologics development, and life science analytical applications.

This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to advance your skills in recombinant enzyme expression, purification, and functional characterization, while contributing directly to the development of innovative products. You'll gain valuable experience in assay development and biochemistry in a cutting-edge industry setting, working alongside experts committed to scientific excellence and real-world impact. The intern will work with a multidisciplinary team. The internship will take place at Promega's Madison, WI site and will span approximately three months, beginning in May or June 2026.

CORE DUTIES:

1. Assist in designing purification of recombinant enzymes, utilizing various chromatography approaches.

2. Optimize purification conditions to maximize enzyme recovery and purity.

3. Characterize enzymes using various methods including SDS-PAGE, UV-RP-HPLC, qPCR, and others.

4. Collaborate with the team members and the members of other teams to meet project milestones.

5. Maintain detailed and accurate documentation of experimental work in accordance with lab standards.

6. Demonstrate inclusion through their own words and actions and is accountable for a safe workspace. Acts with kindness, curiosity, and respect for others.

7. Be open to incorporating Promega's 6 Emotional & Social Intelligence (ESI) core principles in daily work.

8. Understand and comply with ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements applicable to Promega's business.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Currently enrolled in a life sciences program, with two years completed prior to Summer 2026.

2. Ability to work independently with moderate supervision and collaborate effectively with team members.

3. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

4. Excellent written and oral communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Enrollment in a PhD program in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or a related field.

2. Proven experience in protein purification and enzyme characterization.

3. Familiarity with protein purification chromatography techniques and development of enzymological assays.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

1. Ability to remain stationary at a lab bench or fume hood for extended periods.

2. Ability to wear protective gear (gloves, lab coat, safety glasses, etc.).

3. Ability to use laboratory equipment and standard software applications, including Microsoft Office.

4. Ability to move laboratory materials and transport items between buildings as needed.
