Bridge Inspector (Transportation Engineering Technician I)

Recruitment: The State Highway Administration's (SHA) is currently recruiting for a Transportation Engineering Technician I (Bridge Inspector Tech) position. This is an Interview and Hire position that is open to anyone who meets the minimum qualifications listed below.

This announcement may also be used for future SHA vacancies throughout the state of Maryland.

Nature of Work: In compliance with Federal requirements that all bridges be inspected on at least a two (2) year cycle, the Bridge Inspection Team is directly responsible for the inspection of all State-owned bridges and structures. This includes movable bridges, box culverts, pipes, bulkheads, retaining walls and other miscellaneous structures on the Maryland State Highway System. The number of structures totals over 6,000 and has a dollar value in the billions with a yearly repair budget of approximately $16 million dollars. This position will assist the team leader and team members to uniformly inspect all assigned structures on the State Highway network.

Qualifications

Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: None.


Licenses & Certifications

Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Maryland. All applicants must list their license number and expiration date on the application.

Successful candidate will be required to attend a (2) two-week certification course for the Condition Inspection of In-Service Bridges.
