We're seeking a Deputy General Counsel - Labor & Employment to provide strategic legal leadership on all matters related to labor and employment law. This is a critical, high-impact role where you will partner closely with HR, leadership, and business teams to ensure compliance, mitigate risk, and guide decision-making on complex workplace issues. As a Successful Candidate, You will:
- Serve as a trusted advisor on all areas of labor and employment law, including discrimination, harassment, wage & hour, leave laws, and workplace accommodations.
- Partner with HR and provide counsel regarding the organization's labor relations strategy, including union negotiations, grievances, arbitration, and representation petitions.
Provide counsel on compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations, including EEO, ADA, ADEA, FEHA, FMLA, CFRA, PAGA, WARN Act, NLRA, and more. - Draft and review employment agreements, severance packages, settlement agreements, and position statements.
- Partner with HR to develop policies, procedures, and training that foster a positive and compliant workplace culture.
- Stay ahead of evolving employment laws and proactively guide organizational strategies.
Qualifications
Your Qualifications Should Include:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active California Bar membership.
- 7-10 years of experience practicing labor and employment law in a major law firm, In-house setting or equivalent.
- 3-5 years of supervisory experience managing attorneys or legal professionals.
- Strong background in broad range of employment law subject matter areas, union negotiations/ traditional labor advice and counsel, and advising on workforce-related strategies.
- Proven ability to navigate complex, high-volume employment matters while balancing legal risks and business objectives.
- A collaborative leader and strategic business partner who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
