Job Summary

Supervises nurse practitioners (NP or NPs) responsible for patient evaluation, testing, diagnosis, plans of care, and treatment within a clinical department or specialty practice area. As a supervisor, receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and the processes by which to attain them.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $148,700.00 - $360,900.00 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The Adult Infusion Centers at Mt. Zion and Mission Bay service the Medical Oncology population at UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center as well as any non-oncology infusion needs of patients at UCSF. The treatments include but are not limited to chemotherapy, biotherapy, immunotherapy, blood transfusions, hydration and electrolyte therapy, injections and blood draws, enzymes and iron infusions, and antibiotics. The centers collectively consist of over 100 chairs/beds and treatments include research and standard of care infusions. The infusion centers are staffed by Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Medical Assistants, and Practice Coordinators. This position directs Advanced Practice Providers across campuses. The Cancer Acute Care Center (CACC) is staffed with APPs and provide same-day urgent care to cancer patients.

Required Qualifications


  • Master's Degree required in a health care related field from an accredited program.
  • A minimum of 1 (compensatory with supervisor position) Year of related healthcare management or Nurse Practitioner III or Senior Physician Assistant experience and 5 (compensatory with supervisor position) years of APP clinical employment experience within the past 7 years in a healthcare setting or 5 (compensatory with supervisor position) years of recent CRNA or CNM experience in a highly matrixed healthcare organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise a team and to manage the complex workflow and competing priorities involved with providing quality care as an Advanced Practitioner.
  • Advanced experience in clinical specialty supervising APPs.
  • Strong knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document staff issues and performance, and to participate in decision-making on human resources matters.
  • In depth knowledge of patient care clinical standards, systems, external regulations and internal policies.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills to effectively supervise clinicians, manage complex workflow and multiple priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration and problem solving with all levels of management and staff.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to train and mentor subordinates, convey complex clinical and technical information in a clear and concise manner, and to prepare and present a variety of reports, documentation, analyses, and project proposals.
  • Working knowledge of human resources management practices and policies.
  • Demonstrated ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document APP performance.
  • Knowledge of business software, specialized applications and data management systems used in clinics / clinical departments.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Current American Heart Association ACLS Certification

License/Certification

UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.

  • Current California licensure in good standing by specialty:
    • RN/NP
    • Physician Assistant
    • RN/CRNA
    • RN/CNM
  • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) License.
  • Possess National Provider Identification (NPI)
  • Furnishing license as required by specialty
  • Current American Heart Association CPR certification
  • National board certification in area of clinical practice upon hire
